Music Review: Like a Swift Punch in the Face!!

Five Finger Death Punch is a metal band that definately lives up to their name, and their 2007 debut album "The Way of the Fist" is simply one of the best new metal albums that I've had the pleasure of listening to. This album is truly like a swift punch in the face from beginning to end. I got this album on Best Buy.com back in September, and I definately got my dollars worth, and I instantly fell in love with it, and I became of fan of 5FDP as well. Five Finger Death Punch is a heavy metal band that consists of vocalist Ivan Moody (formerly of Motograter), guitarist Zoltan Bathory, bassist Matt Snell, as well as former W.A.S.P. members in guitarist Darrell Roberts and drummer Jeremy Spencer, and these guys truly prove to be in absolute top form as musicians on here. They definately remind me alot of Pantera because they're very heavy and aggressive at times, but they also have a great melodic side as well. The lyrics are strong, and very powerful, the choruses are very catchy and moving, and of course each song on here is flat out amazing and addicting. Ivan Moody has an excellent vocal range. I really like how he can go from powerful, aggressive screams and shouts, and switch to nice, strong, clean melodic vocals. The guitarwork by Zoltan and Darrell is very impressive on here. The riffs are catchy, heavy, energetic, and headbanging worthy, and there's also some great, memorable solos on here as well. Matt has some great basslines, and Jeremy does a solid, splendid job on the drums, and he can also slam the double bass like nobody else's business.
Here's a look at my favorite songs.
The first track "Ashes" is a solid, fast heavy opener and one of the best songs on here that features solid, slamming double bass kicking, heavy, thumping drum beats, fast surging riffs including a fantastic guitar solo, angry heart pumping vocals, and a great melodic chorus to boot. The title cut is another great heavy hitter as well as one of my personal favorites that is highlighted by aggressive, commanding vocals from Ivan, more fast, energy infused, heart pumping riffs, slamming double bass assaults, an addicting energetic shout along chorus, and some nice catchy melodic guitar leads. The third track "Salvation", is another huge favorite of mine that features more powerful screaming vocals, another great melodic sung chorus, strong, fast, chugging riffage, and a nice melodic guitar solo as well. This was also the first 5FDP song that I ever heard before as well. Track four "The Bleeding" (the album's first single) is an awesome ballad type song that also has it's heavy and angry parts. There's also another great solo as well as great mix of singing/screaming vocals from Ivan to boot. Another one of my favorites, track seven "White Knuckles" is highighted by more hot catchy, chugging, energy infused riffs, heavy pounding drum beats, angry, commanding screams, and there's also another awesome, killer solo as well. Track ten and the album closer "Meet the Monster" is a solid, energetic closer that features another fantastic mix of screaming/singing from Ivan along with lean and mean grinding riffs, and a driving, pounding mid tempo drum beat that's downright catchy and hypnotic. Overall, there's not even one bad song on here, seriously they all rule especially the three bonus tracks "Never Enough", "Stranger Than Fiction", and the acoustic version of "The Bleeding" is perfect as well. Overall, this album is an absolute must-have for any serious metalhead like myself, I'm sure glad I got this album, and I've been listening to it ever since. Like I said before, "The Way of the Fist" is like a swift punch in the face, and Five Finger Death Punch deliver it with such power and passion, and this album definately proves it. So if you're a metalhead, you'll love this album. LONG LIVE 5FDP!!
