Music Review: One of Ella and Joe's Most Exceptional Work Together !!

I ordered this CD from Amazon. When I learned that this is actually one recording never before released that featuers both Joe Pass and Ella Fitzgerald, I was thrilled! The sound quality from this release from Gambit Spain is fabulous! This recording is a natural progression of the skills of two highly skilled artists. It is a raw and unadulterated example of emotional communion between two great jazz icons. Ella's interactions with the German audience are so special and from the wild applause from what appeared to be a radio show recording---this really says the MOST. Ella and Joe are clearly at their prime. Each person has been considered by many to be his/her individual exception and talent in the jazz field. Scatting has never been performed by any female jazz vocalist that could ever meet the standards of Ella. And jazz guitar, what else can I say other than that Joe Pass's riffs and complex machinations are incredible. As far as a jazz duo that includes only a singer and a guitar, this really is the one to buy for anyone who would like to be exposed to such greatness. Both Joe and Ella are simply dressed on the cover of this CD and this has been a hallmark of focusing on raw talent for each person when they recorded for years on the Pablo record label. This recording is a hallmark of jazz greatness. Kudos to Gambit Spain for releasing this gem.
Description of Hamburg Duets 1976
2008 release. The show presented on this CD comes from a previously unreleased live performance recorded for a radio show. Some of the tunes performed on the show are reprises from their second album together, Fitzgerald & Pass Again. Four of the tracks featured here mark the only known versions of those songs from Ella and Joe's collective discography. This is the case with 'Them There Eyes, Feelings' (performed here twice), 'Perdido', and 'Little Girl Blue'. Ella and Joe's interaction at the Hamburg concert is, as usual, delightful, and both play with incredible beauty on this previously unknown concert we are very happy to present. Gambit.Jazz CDs
