Music Review: Beautiful - "Yo creo en el amor a traves de los años"

The latest studio recording from Fito Paez is different from previous works in the sense that the musician decided to record this album on his own. No band at all, just him and his piano. The album's name, "Rodolfo" gives you an idea of how personal this work is. After "El mundo cabe en una cancion", Fito surprises fans again by releasing an incredible album.
Prior to the release I had my doubts when it was announced it would be a studio album of Fito and his piano. From the very fist listen I fell in love with it and has become one of my favorite albums of his along "Naturaleza Sangre", "El amor despues del amor" and "Giros"
This album is a clear testimony of the great musician/lyricist he is, to create an album so complete without a band and with only one instrument doesn't sound like an easy task for any musician, yet Fito accomplishes it with great results.
Many of these songs are instant classics, and listening to them live with piano versions of songs like "Hay algo en el mundo", "11 y 6", "Dar es dar" and others was an incredible experience. The album opens with "Si es amor", some of the best lyrics he has written recently to my taste ("Cae la noche en Okinawa" is also notorious for its lyrics). The sad ballad called "Sofi fue una nena de papa" that tells the story of a girl abused by his dad is one of my favorites of the album, the story is sad and Fito sings it with a feeling that makes the song sound even better.
A couple songs included are dedicated to his children, "El cuarto de al lado" was composed for them (me and my wife recently had our first born and we identify a lot with the song) as well as the instrumental "Waltz for Marguie", written for his daughter of the same name, on a side note, this song was used by him to open the concerts of the "Rodolfo" tour.
The rhythmic portion of the album is composed by "Siempre te voy a amar" and "Gracias", a tribute song in which Fito thanks some of his influences, Charly Garcia, Luis Alberto Spinetta and Litto Nebbia.
The art of the album as well as the pictures, all black and white, are the perfect presentation to one of the best works he has created. If you are a fan, you are going to enjoy this, if you are just getting into his music, this is an excellent piece to listen to and understand why he is considered as one of the greatest Latin American musicians there are.
