Music Review: Favorite CD, Favorite Band

1. New Beginnings- The album starts out with a gradual introduction into the style of Finch-Rawk that is on this CD. Slowly building until the guitar and drums come in with the heavy hit. Highlight of this song for me is towards the end when it slows down and then comes in with the scream "whats left for me?"

2. Letters to You- The radio hit in the Seattle area by Finch, so it is the song that most people would know if they heard it. Great song with a very great message. "I want you to know that, I miss you. I miss you so!"

3. Post Script- Awesome intro guitar part on this song, highlighting the skills of every aspect of this band. Some more good screams on this song, and the best song under 3:00 on the CD.

4. Grey Matter- This song that features Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw is an amazing song that bridges the gap between punkrock, nu-metal, and emo. Lots of alternating yelling with the lead singer Nate throwing out most of the vocals as Daryl shouts out the screams. After the first chorus there is an incredibly long scream by Daryl Palumbo that is awesome!

5. Perfection Through Silence- Probably the second best driving song on this CD, this song comes in hard and fast right away and immediately blows the listener away. First song I heard by Finch, and still one of their greatest.

6. Awake- Awake is a little less hyper than the song previously and it is really great. This song has my favorite quote "Silence Broken with Words Unspoken." I love the part of the song where it is really quiet and then he says Awake while there is screaming in the background.

7. Without You Here- A slower side of Finch, and I like it! Great part after about 2:25 where Nate says "Am I losing You," and then commences to scream the same thing. This song used to be my least listened to until I realized how good it was and now it is one of the most frequent.

8. Stay With Me- This song starts out with an awesome little drum solo and sets the stage for a very fast and up beat song. This is one of the two songs on the CD without any screaming, showcasing the more punk rock side that Finch has to offer. For many of my friends that are more into Punk this is their favorite song.

9. Project Mayhem- Project Mayhem amazes me. It is another song that features Daryl Palumbo of Glassjaw and this song really showcases the inventive genius of both of these bands. It is probably their most metal styled song and I just love it! It is over 5 minutes long and many people can't handle but I think it is truly a work of art.

10. Untitled- Slight alternating guitar parts start this song off, and then Nate's voice comes in sort of faded out and subtle until the chorus. I absolutely love the end of this song. The song becomes quiet and there is only the hi-hat and the bass and a quiet guitar part playing. Then Nate comes in singing very nicely and it is just beautiful. Then the bass drum comes in and it starts to build up to the finale. Then there is just guitar and him singing. Then all of a sudden he lets loose with an awesome screaming finale. An amazing song!

11. Three Simple Words- The absolute best driving song on the CD, and one of the best I have ever heard. Starts out with fast guitar and then comes in with the drums and everyone else. Very fun and just an awesome song. Also some great screams at the end: "with my hands around your neck, who will stop me now?"

12. Ender- This song really showcases the softer side of Finch and the amazing singing ability of Nate. I would have to say that this is my favorite song, even though it doesn't have any of the screaming that I love, I also love a softer side to music just as much as the heavier. Good guitar, great drums, just an all around great and very moving song.

13. What it is to Burn (bonus track-demo version)- This song was the song that they opened up with at the concert that I saw them at, and it is great because it starts out pretty soft, then comes in with an awesome beat and then the big scream: "She Burns!" Probably the best demo version of a song that I have ever heard, makes me wonder what they need to change about it. A fabulous ending to an amazing CD.

All in all, Finch may not be for those who do not like screaming, and that is totally cool. If you enjoy some great guitar work, with an amazing singer, and some screaming then this is the perfect CD for you.
