Music Review: The Start of Something Good

This album established the pattern for Ortega's later releases: Gentle piano and guitar versions of favorite hymns, mixed with gentle versions of newer material from Ortega, his producer Schreiner, and others. Song selection makes this album stand out above his others, with his penchant for the melancholy evident in "Angel Fire" and "Anita's Heart" to name a couple. Ortega's soothing vocals, reminiscent of John Michael Talbot, don't cover a wide emotional range, but they work just fine for these arrangements.
