Music Review: Another great classic style release

But they got the job done. Insomnia blasted onto radio airwaves and the UK chart with it's infectious "Drinking myself to sleep again, insomnia" chorus line, whilst the albums title track went top 20 here, and it's a great slow song, faster tempo than High but with emotional brevity at the heart. But that is always the case with this group. Picture Of Perfect Youth and You're My Evergreen may be pop songs, but neither are empty or icy at their hearts. Themes of feeling doomed and like you've lost in life abound at times, indeed you can almost compare a few things to a stadium rock Green Day lyrically. Musically the grunge blueprint remains, but Dry adds strings and makes for something totally wraught and powerful. My favourite, however, is the powerpop energy of So Well- "I got a hole in my head, and it's making me sad"

But as with Polythene not all the tracks quite get the job done, I'm especially ssurprised that Day In Day Out was chosen as the lead single, as its uninspired lyrically, and the novelty of having a fast riff at the start, slow music for the verses and a rockier chorus, has worn off long ago. Radioman and Waiting For Changes are also mediocre at best. It makes for a mid-disc lull, but Tinsel Town ushers in a plethora of top tunes to match the early ones.
