Music Review: Experimental excursion

Talking Heads' third album opens with the Dada poem I Zimbra set to a jungle drum beat. The music is quite experimental, having few of the accessible tunes and hooks that are found on the previous albums on songs like The Big Country and Take Me To The River or ground-breaking singles like Love Goes To Building On Fire. Instead, there are complex rhythmic textures throughout and the tone is rather ominous, especially on Life During Wartime. The only gripping melody is found on the oneiric excursion Heaven, a rumination on the nature of time and sequencing of events. Fear Of Music is thus their least accessible work.
