Music reviews of FarylMusic Review: Soft, peaceful, beautiful music. Rating: 5 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
WOW! (And that's a 72-font wow) Faryl Smith is superb! There are 12 tracks with a total time of about 40 minutes. Beautiful music-- a 5-star rating is not even close. Superb! Fantastic! Relaxing! She has a beautiful voice and a beautiful selection of music. For the spiritual and/or the heart and soul centered person. I like to give you my first impression of music, before even I have time to think about it. I listened to this CD in my sacred space (my car--strange as it may sound).
As I drove to work on the interstate, young Faryl sang her little heart out. Tears streamed slowly down my face as I heard the angelic voice sing musical masterpieces such as Amazing Grace, Ave Maria, Shenandoah, Annie's Song, and others. (A complete list is shown below.) Brahms' Lullaby got me too, because I got flashbacks of my mom singing it. (She passed on many years ago at the much too young age of 53.) You are going to find this hard to believe, but I was so into this music that I drove 26 miles and did not even realize it was foggy until I pulled onto the parking lot at work. Then I felt compelled to sit in the car and listen to the last 2 songs before I got out.
1)Amazing Grace--Beautiful song, as we all know.
2)The River of Light (Blue Danube Waltz) You don't usually hear this one as other than instrumental, but she does a beautiful job.
3) Ave Maria-(the long version and in Latin)--This is one of my absolute favorites. I have been especially close to the Blessed Mother throughout my life. I truly believe she is why I am here, but that is my story. Faryl sings this one beautifully.
4)Annie's Song--John Denver sang this one a lot. You will recognize it instantly. Something to note, not only is the music beautiful but so are the lyrics. ". . . Come let me love you, Let me give my life to you, Let me drown in your laughter, Let me die in your arms, Let me lay down beside you, Let me always be with you, Come let me love you, Come love me again. . ."
5)A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square--a pretty and sweet song
6)Mother of God, Here I Stand--this is the only song no words are printed for because Faryl just sings the melody without words. Again, this is a lovely melody.
7)Shenandoah--I guess everybody knows this one as yet another emotionally charged piece of music.
8)Brahms' Lullaby--The song everyone has sung to babies for a very long time.
9)Calon Lan--Faryl says Grandad taught her the words but doesn't say what language it is. I don't recognize it but on purely a guess, I'll say Celtic or Gaelic? (If you recognize it, let me know.)
10)How Can I Keep From Singing--I did not recognize this one, but very pretty.
11)Somewhere-- From West Side Story--"There's a place for us, somewhere a place for us. . ." I always loved this song. I have been singing it ever since West Side Story, but not as good as Faryl sings it.
12)The Way Old Friends Do-- I did not recognize this one either, but also very pretty--nice song about good friends supporting each other.
There is also a nice booklet included that provides all the words, so you can sing with Faryl. My ONLY suggestion would be on the next printing, to print the words in black instead of red so they could be read easier.
Faryl is a very pretty young lady with a very sweet face and with the voice of an angel. You also hear an occasional crisp British accent, which only adds to the quality of her voice. This is pace-down, feel the beauty and relax music. If you can listen to this CD and be grouchy, you might need to be medicated :-)
Absolutely beautiful music for the hopeless romantic (I mean HOPEFUL romantic), as a wise man once said. Faryl reached right out and touched my heart with this CD!
GREAT JOB, FARYL SMITH!
Update, July 2009:
The song "Calon Lan" (#9 above) is sung in Welsh, and was taught to Faryl by her grandfather. There is a video of her singing this song in Southwark Cathedral on You Tube. She was recording this song and the Brahms Lullaby for the BBC religious programme "Songs of Praise".--This information was provided by Michael A. of England.--Thank you, Michael!

Description of FarylProduced and arranged by Jon Cohen, Faryl consists of an eclectic mix of 12 stunning tracks ranging from such signature classics as Amazing Grace to the lesser known Welsh hymn Calon Lan , taught lovingly to Faryl over the phone by her Grandfather. The album features Faryl s signature song Ave Maria her choice of talent show audition song which has now become synonymous with the youngster, gaining standing ovations whenever she performs it. River of Light has been written by Ivor Novello winning writer Frank Musker and is based on The Blue Danube by John Strauss one of the most popular tunes of all time. The melody is loved around the world but no one has ever heard it like this before. No doubt one of the album s hidden gems is The Way Old Friends Do written by Abba s Bjon Ulvaeus and taken from their 1980 classic Super Trouper album. Bjorn personally changed the lyrics to suit the young star. ...ordinarily Abba are very strict and never sanction lyric changes, but with Faryl, Bjorn offered to change the words personally (Tom Lewis - UCJ) Adding a new dimension to the album is Annie s Song Faryl s rendition of US country star John Denver s number 1 track from 1974. The haunting ballad highlights Faryl s varied vocal range and further showcases the young singers diversity Faryl sings with precision, emotion and power throughout each of the album s 12 tracks. A testament to her ability, Faryl proves that the young girl from Kettering has a glittering career ahead of her. Every singer dreams of recording their own album, but to have this chance at my age was amazing said Faryl. The recording was a challenge - I had to fit it around my school work and so ended up recording right through my Christmas holidays, but I loved every minute of it!
