Music Review: Unnoticed Gem

This is a great recording of a great entertainer at work. Amazingly--for a guy who was active for more than three decades--it's Faron Young's only live record. The label did not treat it with anything near the respect that it warranted. It got no promotion and the packaging is bare. But it's a true live recording of a performance at Gilley's in Branson, not some budget-line amalgam of performances from who knows where, with crowd noises interspersed. It has an ebb and flow with great singing and great storytelling including jokes about his ex-wife and anecdotes about Willie Nelson. The sound quality is excellent. Too bad the disc is not longer, with a few more songs, but the 40 minutes or so that's here is well worth hearing.
