Music Review: Boundless !

Eva Cassidy's "No Boundaries" is a little different from her other five released CDs. It is produced independently and represents more upbeat pop material, intended to appeal to a broader audience, but which sadly already offends some purist fans. Her admirers continue to offer superlatives such as "awesome versatility", "with a vocal performance destined to rank as one of her finest", "signature vocal nuances", "steps into overdrive" with "stunning vocals [that] blast you away". Eva's vocal music reminds me personally of being amidst JS Bach's intertwining and repeating musical figures, and whose significance I compare (even more subtly!) with the breathtakingly exciting early performances on the historic record in another art by James Dean in "Rebel Without a Cause" or Marlon Brando in "On the Waterfront".Another reviewer recently claimed the "singer more often than not places energetic delivery ahead of nuance, a common mistake among developing singers". But Eva's pronounced loudness is carefully crafted-- producing moving, emotional artistry--unlike typical industry styling preferences, nor the embarrassingly lack of authenticity or "overwrought cliched' sentiments" in commercial successes like a Billy Joel or a Vonda Shepard.
Looking at the real world context, apparently her admirers, not surprisingly, more often listen to her music more carefully than those skeptics representing conventional industry sentiments. But, most importantly--what is fair here is that--the real listeners can be the judge.

No Boundaries showcases a different side of Eva, the work she did as a session vocalist. It includes songs written and produced by Tony Taylor and David Christopher as well as two stunning new takes on the classic "Natural Woman". These were some of the first songs Eva ever sang in a professional studio environment (her work before having been done on either home equipment or recorded live).
