Music Review: Eurythmics: The Ultimate Collection (2005)

It has been six long years since Eurythmics released their 1999 tenth studio recorded album entitled, PEACE. The year is now 2005 and Eurythmics have released their eleventh album entitled, THE ULTIMATE COLLECTION. This album marks the second greatest hits compilation for Eurythmics, only this time they featured more of their hits that were overlooked on their 1991 GREATEST HITS album. This album features nothing, but Eurythmics' ULTIMATE collection.
I'VE GOT A LIFE
New song. The first single from the album. Before I heard this song, I thought that Eurythmics had really done it all in releasing new material and would probably never release any new material that would sound as great as their previous material, but I found that I was wrong when I listened to this song, because this song is outstanding. Great song.
LOVE IS A STRANGER
From the album SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) (1983). This is a great song, and I think it was a minor hit, good enough to be included on compilations, such as this, but probably not the single that made Eurythmics famous.
SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS)
From the album SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS) (1983). I think this was the song that made Eurythmics really popular. This was a song that will forever remain a classic. In 1995, Gothic-Rocker, Marilyn Manson went on to re-record this song as a cover. Although, he kept the same sound of this song, he made the style and tone of the song his own. The song was included on his 1995 album, SMELLS LIKE CHILDREN, and it was later included in the 1999 remake, HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL.
WHO'S THAT GIRL?
From the album TOUCH (1983). This is one hell of a great song, where in the video, David and Annie decide to use this song's concept. Madonna did not make a cover of this song. Her song, of the same name, was recorded in 1987 for her film of the same name. So, Eurythmics and Madonna have two completely different songs with the same title.
RIGHT BY YOUR SIDE
From the album TOUCH (1983). I am not too sure if this song was a hit or not. My guess is that if it wasn't, then Annie and David must have decided that this should be included here. Great song.
HERE COMES THE RAIN AGAIN
From the album TOUCH (1983). A great song with a great vocal by Annie, especially in the choruses.
WOULD I LIE TO YOU?
From the album BE YOURSELF TONIGHT (1985). When I first heard this song, I was not paying too much attention, which led me to believe that I was not crazy about it. But I decided to hear this song again and I was completely blown away. This is just awesome, featuring the sounds of Rock and R&B.
THERE MUST BE AN ANGEL (PLAYING WITH MY HEART)
From the album BE YOURSELF TONIGHT (1985). This is another classic.
SISTERS ARE DOIN' IT FOR THEMSELVES (Duet with Aretha Franklin)
From the album BE YOURSELF TONIGHT (1985). I still do not find Aretha Franklin to be talented, except for her songs, "Respect" and "Chain Of Fools". I find Aretha to be at her best when she records a duet, like this one. This song just flat out rocks.
IT'S ALRIGHT (BABY'S COMING BACK)
From the album BE YOURSELF TONIGHT (1985). The last hit from their 1985 album, BE YOURSELF TONIGHT, but it wouldn't be their last single from that album, for the song, "I Love You Like A Ball And Chain" was the last single from their 1985 album, but the single wasn't a huge hit. This song was a big hit, complete with a great music video.
WHEN TOMORROW COMES
From the album REVENGE (1986). Great song.
THORN IN MY SIDE
From the album REVENGE (1986). "You gave me such a bad time, tried to hurt me, but now I know...", says Annie before the first verse of this synthesized acoustic guitar recorded classic.

MISSIONARY MAN
From the album REVENGE (1986). Awesome tune, with one hell of a freaky-a** video. Oh, by the way, "...Don't mess with a missionary man. A missionary man..."
YOU HAVE PLACED A CHILL IN MY HEART
From the album SAVAGE (1987). I'm glad that another song from their 1987 album was not overlooked. Great song.

WAS IT JUST A LOVE AFFAIR?
New song. I am not sure as if they will release this song as their second & final single from this album, but we'll have to wait and see. Great song.
I am disappointed in knowing that for this compilation, Eurythmics decided to overlook the following hits: "Don't Ask Me Why", "Angel", "The King & Queen Of America", "(My My) Baby's Gonna Cry", & "Revival", but this album proves to be Eurythmics' ULTIMATE COLLECTION. An album worth buying.
