Music Review: Back to the dancefloor

Closer to 3.5 stars for me, really. With this release, Erasure comes storming back onto the dancefloor. For me the album version stands out clearly above the rest--there are a lot of things I like about it. I really like the fact that after the intro, the verse is accentuated by keeping the beat out and the accompaniment minimal--Andy's voice sounds so beautiful on the descending line (i.e. never do what I am told to). The little Vince squigglies do seem a bit out of place here, but that's a minor concern for me.
Next, I love the tugging of the beat as it kicks in and propels the song forward. The beat and bass synth are a better rhythm team than on the remixes. I love the instrumentation on the rest of the track, e.g. the doubling of some of the synth lines. There is one synth line that sounds like a rearranged version of the opening synth line of "Don't Go"--which I think is a fun nod to the past.
Where I think it begins to fall apart is with all the lyrical and melodic repetition. I am already getting tired of this tune after a week. For me, it ranks below all three (or four, counting ATTSFOOL) "Nightbird" singles. It is an immediate attention-grabber, but perhaps too familiar sounding to become one of the all-time classics.
That said, the remixes are both very good, and should sound great in the clubs. It just doesn't measure up so well with their astounding catalog.
