Music Review: This Xmas albums goes back to the old Enya in a good way
Rating: 5 Stars

Being of the Jewish faith, I was a little hesitant to buy this album, knowing it was suppose to be an Christmas inspired album. However, also being an avid Enya fan, I decided to buy this album and listen to it with an open mind. And I am so glad I did. Not only did this album not sound like a commercialized Christmas album, it reminded me of the music Enya had done on her first four or five albums. Even though there are some references to Christmas, they are few and far between. No Enya fan will be disappointed in this album. The melodies are very well layered, very lush and simply heavenly to listen to. As one of the previous posters said, only one song caught me by surprise and that was "My, My Time Flies!", but it surprised me in a very good way. I love every song on this album, but my favorites are "Trains and Winter Rains", "Dreams are more Precisous", "Last Time by Moonlight", "One Toy Soldier" and of course "My, My, Time Flies!". Overall, this is a great album for any time of the year.

Music Review: Good effort at creating modern holiday carols, plus one great surprise
Rating: 4 Stars

For those who scream at the thought of traditional holiday music (like me!), here's a CD that manages to evoke the holiday mood while retaining some depth and substance. "And Winter Came" will get you into the holiday mood without causing an overdose!

While a few cringe-worthy lyrics and the notable recycling of the lead track mar the overall impression, the album is nevertheless an ambitious and largely successful attempt at creating modern holiday carols without resorting to covers.

The one great, albeit anachronistic, surprise is "My! My! Time Flies!" which alone would make the album worthwhile. Is that electric guitar I hear?!? The bluesy, retro-pop quality to this song is the most different thing I've heard from Enya since.... well, 1989. It's certainly a forced fit on a holiday album, but the song is so good that I find myself not caring. Is the lyric "could be 2010" a hint at the future style Enya intends to take? I certainly hope so.

Music Review: Enya's At It Again!
Rating: 5 Stars

I absolutely love this album! And I don't see how anyone can see any "commercialism" in it.. She writes her own songs, comes up with her own melodies, etc. I guess there always has to be those few people who like to complain all the time though. *shrug* Now to the CD...I especially love the songs, "White Is In The Winter Night", "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel", and "Trains And Winter Rains". Don't get me wrong, these aren't the ONLY songs I like, they are just the ones I find completely original. I have read some reviews where people were complaining about the album's "Winter" theme. Um, hello, the name of the CD is, "And Winter Came"...What more did you expect? I find her voice to be haunting in almost ALL the tracks. You can't listen to one song on the CD and not not expect to get cold chills.

Who knows though, maybe I'm crazy and I'm willing to accept anything Enya puts out.

Guess you'll just have to buy it and find out on your own. ;)

Music Review: And Winter Came

First of all, I am not a fan of Christmas CDs. They just don't really get me that much. Would rather be singing Christmas carols than hearing them. That said, this is actually the only holiday CD that is original enough that I'll listen to it! There is a good variety of songs, from classics to new ones. Enya has a gorgeous voice that really makes the songs come alive. And the instruments suit the songs very well. Lyrics are great, though on some of them they don't really make much sense. One of my favorite songs on this album is, "My, My, Time Flies". 70's beat, very catchy. Though I don't understand the meaning of the lyrics. An apple falls in his hand? A one-way ticket to Mars? Ah well, still pretty. Another one is "Trains and Winter Rains". The beat really feels like a train tugging along. Soft, melodious.
Not all of these songs are Christmas, but it's a nice album. I definitely recommend it. Essential for people who like Celtic/holiday.

Music Review: A Very Ethereal Kind Of Christmas!!--Different In A Good Way!
Rating: 4 Stars

I bought this CD during the 2008 holiday season and I really enjoyed most of the songs on it.
I will say that it's not for everyone, especially if you're not into Enya's style of music.
But overall, it added a very ethereal vibe to my home during the holiday season and everybody
was asking me "Who is that?" as it played softly in the background, mixed in with other christmas
music which I had playing randomly. That's what I think made it fit in so beautifully!
I didn't just put the whole CD on and play it track for track, but it gave it more effect
spliced in between other more standard Christmas fair like Al Jarreau, Harry Connick Jr.,
Tony Bennett, Rashaan Patterson, and other classic christmas songs from days gone by.
At any rate, I think most would enjoy this CD in their 2009 collection and beyond.
I'll give it a solid A- rating overall! (-:
