Music Review: Bocelli may have a beautiful voice, but he's no Pavarotti

Andrea Bocelli has a aesthetically pleasing and beautiful voice, but it lacks discipilne. In a voice contest he could not compete with Pavavotti. His voice is just too weak. And it lacks Pavarotti's silky, flowing riverlike feel, all though, at times it can be more entertaining. But, about the recording: the songs are all pretty (the melodies, all least), but only the first four ( "Canto Della Terra", "The Prayer", "Sogno", and "Il Mare Tu" ) are truelly beautiful, and even they have their faults. The other songs are all very forgetable. "Nel Cuore Lei" is one that you will definately want to forget. In this song, Bocelli sings a duet with a guy called Eros Ramazzoti. This guy has a voice that most closely resembles a squawking parrot. I mean, where did they get this guy? Did the real singer drop out at the last minute, and the producers then picked Ramazzoti off the musical boondocks? Having said that, here are my critiques for my four favorite songs: "Canto Della Terra" is a soaring song about the Earth and the Sun, and is executed very well, except near the end when the chorus starts singing. Their voices seem slightly sour, and almost ruin the end of the song. "The Prayer" is the most perfect song on the recording. The only thing I could find wroung with it was that it didn't go on forever. It is no wonder that this song was nominated for an Academy Award (and it should have won, too). I hope that sometime soon, Bocelli and Celine Dion will record a CD that contains only duets they sung together. With "Sogno", I'll be frank, this song would definately have been better if: #1, Pavarotti had sung it; and #2, if there had been a echoing effect. This song brings to mind a circular staircase and a huge hallway, so there should be an echo. "Il Mare Tu" starts out sounding like a pretty lullaby, and then becomes a dramatic gypsy Spanish/Italian dance. This is a very fresh change from the previous three songs. And Dulce Pontes sings very nicely, for a full flamenco dance effect, but the title puzzles me, it means "To the Sea". It seems strange, in my opinion, to hear a spicy dance, and to hear at the same time, about the sea, but it's a small point, so you may disagree. Anyway, don't expect to hear Bocelli singing with the Three Tenors on Channel 13 anytime soon. His voice has yet to mature. Not to say it isn't good, though. The recording is worth its price, unless you can find it for cheaper...
