Music Review: A fantastic recording with diverse offerings

Frequently I am turned off by "best of" compilations, or "music for..." collections, but Encore! is different. The pieces on this disc are perfect stand-alone works that can be hard to find elsewhere, yet they are arranged in such a way as to provide and enjoyable listen straight-through the CD. All of them are played by the same ensemble under the same conductor, and the Detroit Symphony under Jarvi is a joy to listen to. The recording quality is good.

I've had this CD for many years and continue coming back to it again and again. In the Jarvi tradition, the selection of encore music ranges all across the board, from the pensive Clair de Lune to the playful Promenade: Walking the Dog, to the more typical fanfaric finishers. Highly recommended for beginning and veteran classical listeners alike.
