Music reviews of Free MeMusic Review: AMAZING! Rating: 5 Stars
This is definetly the best solo-spice release. With smooth 60's beats and modern vocals you can't help but fall in love with this album. Every song captivates you and you curse yourself for not buying it earlier! Several songs are dance influenced and have some latin flow, so if you want dance- "Free Me" has it! If you want ballads--"Free Me" has it- if you want the best music ever recorded! -- "Free Me" has it. While normally I hate the "1-5" rating of the songs I am going to do it because I feel that this CD is so amazing I will have to rate few things less than 5:
1. Free Me- A great dancable power-ballad with haunting lyrics. This was Emma's first single from 'Free Me' and it reached #5 on the US Billboard charts! 4.5/5
2. Maybe- A great song that opens with "Ba da da ba da da" taking you all the way back to when James Bond was everyone's hero. The song is so original and at the same time so classic. An amazing track. 5/5
3. I'll Be There- Before you label this "a ballad" give it a good listen. It starts out slow and works itself into a HUGE chorus! The song makes you want to get up and slow dance a bit, and then jive a bit, then break dance! It's very exciting! 4/5
4. Tomorrow- A beautifully up to beat track. Amazing lyrics and even better vocals. A personal favorite of mine. You'll be humming the beat all day long! 4.5/5
5. Breathing- This is, in my opinion, the best song on the album. It starts off a bit drab--gets higher--and higher--until you can't help but sing along! This song makes you feel so enthused and into it that you forget you are driving 65mph in a 25 zone. 10/5
6. Crickets Sing for Anamaria- A cover of one of the biggest songs to hit South America. Not only that, but Emma's version took over South America, Asia, and Europe! Soon to be seen all over American television as well, this Brazillian beat track really satisfies your hunger for something new and better in this hip-hop driven music world. 5/5
7. No Sign of Life- An amazingly sung ballad. However, it's not the usual ballad. It has fast paced music at times that remind you of the 70's and a better time gone by. This song is amazing- I can't say it enough- purely amazing! 5/5
8. Who the Hell Are You- Released as a B-Side to "What Took You So Long" in 2000, this track is a definite score. The song is packed with gummy beats and well ranged vocals to make any music critic swoon. Yet another of my favorites. 5/5
9. Lay Your Love on Me- Head rush and tingleing is right! You will be breathless when you first listen to this song. With the high "swoop!" of classic 60's music and the strong bass and drums of the 90's this track makes you happy just to have ears!! 4.5/5
10. Amazing- Not my favorite on the album, but still very well done. Many people love it because the beautiful vocals but personally after all the electric songs and constant chimes of dance music before it, it just flows a little too slow for me. Still a very pretty song that could easily be thrown into a wedding at some point...maybe..?? 3.5/5
11. You Are- A great song that brings you back to the dance floor after the lights dimmed down for "Amazing". A really nice follow up that lifts your spirits and sides of your mouth! You can't help but love the brassy tones of this track and sing along with it. 4/5
12. Something So Beautiful- The best ballad on this album. It slows down to the pace of "Amazing" but then brings it back with a "Who The Hell Are You" pitch and flare. A great song that would make a fitting single for the US. 4/5
13. Free Me [Dr. Octavo Seduction Remix][*][Mix]- Not the best remix but still makes you want to dance to the techno-inspired bass of Dr. Octavo's edit. The video that comes along with this track on the album is very well mixed to suit the new beat. 4/5
14. Free Me [Full Intention Freed Up Remix] [*][Mix]- A great remix with the strength to top any music lover's wish list. An ace of a mix and a great track all around. I rarely rate remixes high (if not for the vocal edits of Dr. Octavo's mix it would have been a 3) but this deserves it... 5/5!
All in all this album is pure genius. Not being an Emma Bunton fan myself I was shocked at the prestige of a sophomore release from a former "Spice". I love everything about this CD and you would be a fool not to pick up a copy!
