Music Review: A collecter's item, a definite treasure!

I was completely touched when I watched this film, that I watched it over and over again. I finally bought the film, and then I bought the book. I just wish that I understood the book more when I read it, and I finally did after I saw the film. But really though, I didn't want to understand it because it was for school, and you know that when you have to read books for school that you are never interested in them, unless it's one you want to read. It was the same way with the film, but I rented it after I saw it in school, so I could hear what people are saying in the film, since everyone was talking in class. I kept falling in love with the music, but I just never could buy the score, because I was always buying something else. Now I wish I'd bought it sooner. I just love the music, everything about it, the violin solos, cello solos, piano, and everything else in the orchestra. I wish that Elmer could've received an Academy Award for this instead of a nomination, because to me, it beat out Maurice Jarre's music for Lawrence of Arabia, since his music was always the same thing over and over again. Well at least he finally received one for Thoroughly Modern Milly. Elmer still continues to give out his genius in his films, and hopefully he will receive more Oscars for his genius

Description of To Kill A Mockingbird: Original Motion Picture Score (1996 Re-recording)
Two years after his lauded work on John Sturges's sweeping Western THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN, composer Elmer Bernstein created the music for TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, a 1962 film adaptation of Harper Lee's beloved literary classic. In contrast to the former movie's majestic sound, Bernstein's score for MOCKINGBIRD (which won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Oscar) is appropriately subtle and nuanced, with most tracks featuring delicate woodwind-and-string passages. The "Main Title" is dreamy and pensive, yet slightly foreboding at times, expertly evoking the story's larger themes. Poignant pieces such as "Remember Mama" and "Jem's Discovery" successfully convey the film's emotional weight, while more urgent songs ("Tree Treasure," "Assault in the Shadows") perfectly echo its most suspenseful moments. Though not as immediately striking as his soundtracks for THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN and THE GREAT ESCAPE, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is a prime example of Bernstein at his understated best.
