Music Review: Hauntingly lyrical and deeply romantic

Herrmann seized upon the seaside setting of this film to create a score that alternates between lyric romanticism and majestic panorama. Herrmann was fond of Vaughan Williams and he truly pays homage to that composer with this score. It was written after his work with Welles but before his work with Hitchcock, and shows how deep the strains of Romanticism ran through him. An exquisite performance of one of the maestro's greatest artistic achievements.
