I'M A LONG-TIME, AVID JAZZ AND BRAZILIAN MUSIC-LOVER AND DRUMMER, RAISED IN THE LA AREA. I'VE ALWAYS APPRECIATED GREAT MUSIC. BUT THIS - ELIANE ELIAS CD, BOSSA NOVA STORIES, IS ONE OF THE BEST CDS I'D EVER PURCHASED, AND RE-PURCHASED FOR FRIENDS AND FAMILY MEMBERS! I'VE BEEN LISTENING - IN AWE - OF THE FANTASTIC MUSICIANSHIP OF ALL MEMBERS OF THE BAND. AND TOOTS THIELMANS - WOW! BEAUTIFUL! WONDERFUL INTROS AND ENDINGS TOO!! I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS CD - AND THE REALLY, REALLY SUPER-NICE VOICE AND PIANO PLAYING BY ELIANE ELIAS - NOTHING OVER- OR UNDERSTATED! JUST PERFECT!! AND - HOW NICE SHE SINGS IN ENGLISH AND IN PORTEUGESE -- GREAT BALANCE! I GET CHILLS AND WARMTH LISTENING TO THESE WONDERFUL TRACKS! Description of Bossa Nova Stories
Now based in New York, Eliane Elias was born in Sao Paolo and grew up as a child prodigy on the piano during the 60's when Bossa Nova was conquering the world. Following the critically acclaimed Blue Note album "Eliane Sings and Plays Bill Evans" and 2 sold out shows at London's famed Ronnie Scott's in May, this album is a collection of Bossa Nova classics and bossa interpretations of some other classic songs performed with an all-star band of completely new recordings. Eliane is simply one of the world's great jazz pianists and her voice suits the Bossa Nova style perfectly.
