Music Review: The music is fine, but this box is pointless and hideously overpriced

Whether or not you like The Eagles, this box is simply a rip off. What you get is:

The six single disc original Eagles studio albums
The two disc Eagles live album (which could easily fit on one CD, but is kept in a 2CD configuration so you can be overcharged)
A CD single (the original Christmas single).

Every item included is easily available individually. There are no bonus tracks. The packaging is OK (mini LP sleeves), but that's about all I can in favor of this set.

The suggested list price, given the contents, is ridiculous. $110 for 7 albums and a single?

Unless you simply have to have this as a conversation piece, I can't imagine buying it.

Note that this is supposedly a limited edition of 20,000 copies. (That's a LOT of copies for an inconsequential collection like this).

My specific recommendation: Buy the first five albums individually (new or used). If you want it, get the significantly inferior "Long Run" album, as well. Skip the incredibly lifeless and redundant live album. Pick up the single for a couple of bucks. And be done with it.

Description of Asylum Album Box Set (9CD)

The Eagles reunited in the studio for 1994's Hell Freezes Over, and they continue to tour to great acclaim, but their reputation was made on the stellar repertoire they recorded from '72-'80, presented here in one collection for the first time. It all began in the early '70s when the band soared above their origins as harmony-heavy roots-rockers to emerge as the defining artists of the influential Southern California scene. They delivered four consecutive #1 albums that decade; three are contained herein (the fourth was their 1976 Greatest Hits). Ultimately they became one of the all-time biggest acts in contemporary music. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, they made the R.I.A.A.'s elite Artists of the Century list in 1999.
