Music Review: Piece of Musical History worth having

Everyone else has said it before - this man was the seminal influence of modern guitar playing - held in awe (and often outdoing) Eric Clapton himself. Unlike many other players, he could play jazz, blues, rock, folk, almost anything with an incredible *feel* - pretty darn good for a self taught guy who couldn't read music!
And his influence is as far reaching as you could imagine - not only were bands like Marshall Tucker, Orleans and Lynyrd Skynyrd spawned from the great south, Don Felder of the Eagles (Mr Hotel California) learned slide guitar from Duane Allman...
This collection is worth it for the following:
BB King Medley - The Hour Glass. This was the track HG recorded for the record execs in LA, who were hell bent on them becoming pop musicians. It was rejected by the execs and stands as the only outstanding piece of work that band ever did (boo hoo to the producers).
Hey Jude - Wilson Pickett. He didn't even want to record this song because it was a Beatles song - but the man he nick-named "Skyman" shortly thereafter persuaded him to do it ... the rest is history!
(For you triva buffs: Duane's original nick-name was "Dog" - Wilson Pickett added Skyman - this was later merged to become "Skydog".)
Loan Me a Dime - Bos Scaggs (10 years before Silk Degrees). Amazing standout track off an otherwise dreadful debut album. I think Duane *made* this track with his incredible playing.
Going Down Slow - Duane Allman - he was a reasonable singer - could certainly hold a tune. Had he lived perhaps he may have done more singing (hard being overshadowed by those better than you, I certainly can relate to that.)
Only other comments: There's too much Allman Brothers stuff and Derek & the Dominos stuff - only because (as another reviewer said) we've already got that. It could've had more rare items not found on any ABB release - like the gems I mentioned above.

Universal. 2008.While his recording career only lasted a little more than six years ('66-'71), Duane Allman's playing was heard not only with the Allman Brothers Band, but on a variety of important records by other artists as well. Hence this posthumous 1972 double-album collection, which--besides five Allman Brothers tracks--includes many memorable solos by the distinctive slide guitarist from sessions at the fabled Fame and Muscle Shoals studios. Highlights include soul versions of "Hey Jude" (Wilson Pickett), "The Weight" (Aretha Franklin), and "Games People Play" (King Curtis), as well as the time-stopping "Somebody Loan Me a Dime" (Boz Scaggs) and Derek and the Dominoes' classic, "Layla." --Billy Altman
