Music reviews of Singles Collection

Music Review: it's about damn time it's released in the u.s.!
Rating: 5 Stars

while this version isn't exactly the same as the import onlyversion (wich also contains caps and bottles live-one of myfav. dropkick songs!)i can't really complain cause i finally was able to get it earlier this week for [about half the price of the import version]. it's really nice to hear the b'sides on cd and not on 7"'s (i guess all the people who picked up those are kicking themselves now!). 3 clash cover made me more than happy (i'm a huge clash fan and they happen to be my fav. punk band-i will say guns of brixton isn't live on this one (even though it says it is!)the version on the 7" is different as is the import cd!). billy bones is a great pogues cover and it's nice to hear the earlier versions of such classics as never alone (boy was that different!)and the road of the rightous! the live version at the end of the do or die release party is also cool (a few songs from that aren't on the european import!). mike will always be the best singer for the band (too bad he decided to leave! he left cause his heart just wasn't into playing songs he didn't fully agree with and didn't like all the touring-i finally found out the real reason at the dropkicks site!)al barr is a good singer and the gangs all here is a good album but it just doesn't seem like dropkick murphys but more like al's old band the brusiers mixed with a harder edged dropkick murphys(check out the brusiers too if you already haven't!) i can't wait to hear their new album (out september 5th-caps and bottles is supposed to be remade for that...sorry al,i said i wouldn't tell anyone-al told me this earlier this year!)and i can't wait to see 'em live again (rick barton, their guitarist recently left the band and they have two new guitar players now!-that makes ken the only orignal member cause the drummer wasn't with them from the start!). do or die is defently one of the best punk/oi! albums of the 90's and one that will be remebered for years to come as a influental album for the younger bands and older ones! get this album to relive the pure irish fury or what the dropkick murphys once were!

Description of Singles Collection

New from Hellcat Records is the latest album from one of the biggest selling acts in the Epitaph/Hellcat stables.
Is there a finer green-blooded punk band in all of Boston than the Dropkick Murphys? The Singles Collection 1996-1997 answers the question with a rousing "Oy!". Like all good punk outfits, the Dropkick Murphys recorded several 7-inch records and toured diligently; most DM fans will have most of these tracks, but will probably want crunchy, angry anthems such as "Fightstarter Karaoke" and "Regular Guy" on compact disc. In addition to this material are 10 live numbers from the Do or Die record release show. The sonic document perfectly captures the Murphys' harsh sizzle and, combined with the rest of the disc, distracts from the fact that The Singles Collection contains three--count 'em, three--Clash covers! At least their allegiances are clear. --Jason Josephes
