Music Review: Disappointing at best.

I hate to be odd man out, but I was very disappointed in this CD. I am not a preschool or kindergarten teacher, but we are homeschooling our children. I bought this CD for the days of the week and month songs to help my four-year-old learn those. I am sure Dr. Jean is a wonderful person, but this CD is just a plunky keyboard and a woman singing (occasionally some children). At best I can say the woman can carry a tune; at worst I could guess she's never had any vocal training. She borrowed standard tunes and changed perfectly fun lyrics to much more dull lyrics. I am a huge believer in the material being fun for the teacher as well as the kids - this just doesn't cut it in our situation. My kids listened to it all the way through once, but they have not asked to listen to it again as they do our other music. We are going to use the songs for which I purchased the CD to see if they do help with memorization of months and days of the week because those kinds of songs are very difficult to find; but I think we'll pass on the rest. For the same amount of money as one of Dr. Jean's CDs I can buy almost three CDs of singing vegetables who have fabulous musical talent and accompaniments. Sure the vegetable voices get annoying the ninth or tenth time in a row, but until then the lyrics are clever and fun. Now if I could just convince the vegetables to sing songs about the days of the week, months in the year, presidents, states...
