Music Review: Just between you and me...

I was sorry to see this release kind of fall through the cracks. It didn't get nearly the push by the record company or the attention it deserved in my opinion.
Donny himself loved how this album turned out, and after being unavailable and out of print for awhile he's brought it back again through his own label, Nightstar. So if you missed out the first time, I recommend grabbing this one now.
Here, Donny worked with the stellar team of Carl Sturken and Evan Rogers, who also produced and wrote on his "comeback" album "Donny Osmond" as well as Ric Wake and Dave Gamson. So it has a fantastic pedigree.
The songs range from funky uptempo numbers to soulful ballads.
My Love Is A Fire was a single at the time, and it's a hot, funky dance number. There was also a video produced of the song at the time that you can easily find uploaded now on YouTube.
Eyes Don't Lie follows in a similar vein, a funky, hot and pumping number.
Love Will Survive is next, and it's the strongest of the ballads here I think. It was also released as a single at the time and reached #24 on the A/C charts.
Sure Lookin' brings it up again. A fun, poppy dance number. The video produced of the song featured Dweezil Zappa and can also be found quite easily on YouTube. There were several club and DJ mixes of this one out at the time that I thought were pretty cool.
Private Affair is another strong ballad. Written by Diane Warren, it's a great slow jam and Donny sounds wonderfully sexy and grown up here.
Take Another Try (At Love) is an uptempo poppy piece. It samples Donny's hit with his brothers "One Bad Apple". It's cute, but not one of my absolute favorites.
Make It Last Forever is yet another soulful ballad. Not as strong as Private Affair or Love Will Survive but still quite nice.
Never Too Late For Love is an uptempo, funky, more R&B flavored number.
Just Between You And Me is an R&B flavored ballad.
Before It's Too Late ends the album, another ballad. One of the weaker songs on the album I think.
Other than I feel there is just one too many ballads, it's overall a strong release, and lets Donny sink his chops into what he does best which in my opinion is R&B flavored material.
