Music Review: Dispatch's Raw Electric Greatness, 4.5 Stars

I've always wondered the story behind this album. What does Four-Day Trials mean? I assume maybe they spent four days in the studio just recording--a bunch of new tracks, a couple old favorites. But whatever the reason the decision just to have a laid back electric session made this album what it is.
Yeah, the other reviewers have it. There is something really different about this album. It is Dispatch at its rawest and tightest form. The tracks were all recorded live in the studio and this a prime example of how sticking to low production values can amp an album to the fullest. A couple of these songs are already featured on Bang Bang, but, to me, these are the definitive versions. The group puts so much energy into the songs, especially Here We Go, Mission, and Root Down (Beastie Boys cover) where they go absolutely ballistic. Braddigan's drum work is easily his best on these ones. And, damn, how do you rap while playing guitar, bass, and drums--c'mon now.
After letting the album grow on me, it remains my favorite next to All Points Bulletin. It is lesser known and wholly underrated compared to the other albums, especially Bang Bang, but every person I give this to comes back relaying it's easily their favorite. This is Dispatch's Tonight's The Night--forgotten classic of laid back, but defining material.
