Music Review: Another Favorite Bedtime CD

THE BEST OF POOH & HEFFALUMPS, TOO is a wonderful CD, full of some terrific memories. It has all of the original Winnie the Pooh classics songs, from The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers to Heffalumps And Woozles. It also contains Carly Simon's original Winnie the Pooh songs, written for some of the more modern movies, like Piglet's Big Movie and Pooh's Heffalump Movie.
All the original, "great" songs remembered from childhood are here: Winnie the Pooh, Heffalumps And Woozles, The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers, Up, Down, and Touch the Ground, Rumbly In My Tumbly, and Little Black Rain Cloud. Carly Simon's new songs are equally memorable, and will one day be classics in their own right. New favorites include Little Mr. Roo (a very sweet, tender lullaby), and With A Few Good Friends. Carly Simon sounds simply wonderful. You can tell that this effort was a labor of love for her.
My 3 year old enjoys this one very much. She knows all the words, and we sing them together. This CD is a good mix of upbeat, dreamy, and instrumental, and is very easy to snuggle up and fall asleep to. My daughter has even fallen asleep in the middle of singing! And so have I...
Description of Best of Pooh and Heffalumps, Too
\NThe soundtrack to 2003's Piglet's Big Movie, from which Heffalumps borrows a couple of songs, played like a well-kept secret: Instead of stuttering along with Tigger and the gang, grown-ups got to match vocals with Carly Simon, who lent the bulk of the songs baby-blanket warmth and appeal. On this sequel soundtrack for which she was wisely recruited, she appears as honey-voiced as ever, coaxing a grown-up caliber performance out of a kids' orchestra on "Shoulder to Shoulder" and getting down to the kiddy nitty-gritty of "In the Name of the Hundred Acre Wood/What Do You Do?" Though Simon's sweet-natured contributions account for only around half the disc, with the other half returning us to fluffy Pooh staples, the energy expended on a bouncy-flouncy fun-fun-fun slog through "The Wonderful Thing About Tiggers" is well worth it. At home harmonizing rarely gets this good. --Tammy La Gorce
