Music Reviews of DetailsMusic Review: Frou Frou? No. Rating: 1 Stars
Frou Frou's music wallows in generic pop backgrounds, melodic nothings and the general absence of any actual music, replaced by stock flourishes and very occasional attempts at funky fill-ins. Just about all the songs run together into a mish-mash of bland piano/synth/electronica, topped off by mostly annoying vocal gymnastics. I have nothing against piano/synth/electronica backgrounds, when the instruments are used well. They're not doing anything here. At all. The singer sounds like Dido minus most of the talent, and most of the time there are very few vocal hooks and a lot of bad falsetto and coy accents.
This is pop music without any hooks, excitement, or beauty. (This is not "trip-hop", and anyone comparing this to Portishead is being ridiculous- stay away, fans of Portishead/Massive Attack). About one and a half songs are of interest. "Breathe In" has a nice bassline/vocals combination, and the ending of "Shh" presents us with an actual hook. Apart from that, strictly music to sleep to.
And is this the worst name for a pop group ever? Its up there, definitely.
Music Review: It's Okay, But Should've Been Better Rating: 3 Stars
Like Most people, I picked up "Details" after hearing "Let Go" on the "Garden State" soundtrack. Phenominal song for those(the very few)of you that haven't already heard it. That's I think why I was a little let down when I listened to the rest of the album. I was expecting something more sophisticated & less poppy I suppose & thats the only real reason I've given this a 3 star rating, rather than a 4. I was hoping for something more along the lines of "Lamb" or "Kosheen" (for anyone who's never heard either of those 2 artists; check 'em out, Amazing!!!). Though not strictly catagorized as "electronica" both of their sounds definately lean a little more towards that way. Frou Frou's music isn't bad, it's actually realy very catchy & easy to listen to. The problem for me was just that none of the other tracks ever really match the greatness of "Let Go". Now this is also coming from the perspective of someone who lives & breathes dance/electronic music & is of course only my opinion. Anyone who's ever enjoyed say "Dido", or "Sarah McLachlan" will surely enjoy this album as well.
Music Review: Frou Frou: Details Rating: 4 Stars
Indeed, this cd was well worth the purchase. Although not the type of music I usually listen to, I was enamored by one of their songs when I heard it in the trailer to the film Garden State. The opening track on the cd, Let Go is definitely my favorite, but several other songs are quite excellent as well. Songs like Psychobabble and Must Be Dreaming are some of my favorites, but one or two songs just turned me off completely, to the point I just skip it now, especially It's Good To Be In Love, which, in my opinion is too similar to teenpop, most noticeably BB Mak, a group I do not enjoy listening to. But otherwise, this is a strong output by Guy Sigsworth and Imogen Heap. Heap's voice manages to be haunting and strangely caressing, and even believably placating in many circumstances, expressing a type of inner pain whose calls are oddly calming. If you, like me, where simply hypnotized by Let Go when you first saw the Garden State trailer, get the album, although I feel none of the other song are quite as good, Details is still definitely worth a listen. Thank You
Music Review: Intelligent emotional music Rating: 4 Stars
These songs remind me why music can communicate more than words, and why great words can create great music.
"Let Go" - It's tough to know which of our fears can be released or overcome. If we knew, we'd probably live less fearfully. "Let go" suggests trying to look at our fears from new perspectives. Sometimes we go crazy for good reasons. Sometimes there is beauty to be discovered in the process of a mental breakdown.
"Breathe In" - The sounds of this music clean my head.
"It's Good To Be In Love" - The song is hopeful It metaphorically picks daisies.
"Shh" - If you want to remember what it was like to be young and lustful, rotate this one.
"Hear Me Out" - Reminds us how we can attach to others more than we understand
I do praise the above songs. And I look forward to anything new from Imogen or Frou Frou. The music can make you feel more youthful and emotionally connected - if you are open to that.

Music Review: the best cd I own Rating: 5 Stars
I first heard Imogen Heap on the I Still Know What You Did Last Summer soundtrack with Who's Getting Scared Now. My discovery of her was the only good thing about that movie. Anyway I was a huge fan of her beautiful voice from then on. Although Imogen is compared to everyone from Tori Amos to Bjork there is really no other singer out there like her. The inflections and tone of her voice, her perfect lyrics. Sadly her debut solo IMegaphone didn't do well and I thought I'd heard the last of her. Then my friend turned me onto the import of of Details in May. I ran out and shelled out my thirty bucks and seriously I have not stopped listening to this album since then. It's my favorite CD out of over 500. Each song is perfect by itself or together as a whole album. This more than a CD I can listen to all the way through it's one I can listen to over and over. All the tracks are excellent but my personal favorites are Must Be Dreaming, Ssh, and It's Good to be in Love. Imogen Heap combined with the mixes of Guy Sigsworth equals prefection.
