Music Review: Dennis How I miss you

I bought the audio cassetes of this back in 1996 (sadly, the CD release is not the complete set like the tapes) and I was hooked on Dennis. He became a real hero of mine because of his aserbic and no holds barred view of life, politics and the world. He was raw and a little high brow, but that's what I loved. I loved not getting a joke, then figuring it out a minute later only to laugh my (...) off at it.
Dennis always referred to himself as a pragmatist, and I realized back in 1996 at age 25 that I too, was pragmatic about most of life, and couldn't figure out why so many views were gridlocked in their own narrowness.
Dennis was a beacon for me, and he continued to be until his HBO show ended in 2002. But, alas, after Bush got elected in 2000, Dennis (a self-proclaimed voter of Bush)still shot his barbs equally until his show ended. I guess after 9-11 it was harder to make dumbguy jabs at Bush, and Dennis felt the crunch. So after a couple years of unemployment, Dennis did what every show biz (...) does - they play to the biggest audience they can find. And thus Dennis shaped himself into a wiseass neo-con comic. But has had little success with this, as ultimatly, it doesn't fit him convincingly. And after a short stint back on TV, he is gone again.
Honestly, this CD shows the truest Dennis - one who isn't on either side of the fence, but rather a wisecracking thinker, who looks at the complexity of issues, then dumps all over those too stubborn to see the obvious.
If you don't get it, or get put off by it, chances are you're in the category of people he is picking on.
I have all of his books and his audio cds, and plan to look on them as definitive anti-BS histories of the 1990s in America. And I think in time, they will hold up well in that regard.
Give this (and other pre-2000) Dennis CDs a chance. You may find a more sincere and funnier version than what we have seen recently.
