Music Review: EXTRAORDINARILY EVOCATIVE

If you buy this thinking that it will have some kind of erotic appeal, you will possibly be disappointed. Personally (and this may be a generational thing), when I think of superb music for strippers, I think of AC/DC's "The Girls Got Rhythm," and "Get It Hot," or Motley Crue's "She's Got Looks That Kill." That is music which just clearly fuels the kind of Vegas-style debauchery that I think of when I think of a great strip show.
This, however, is simply superb "night club" music. I can't believe there are not a thousand 5-star reviews of this album. This is more about "smoky sax" than it is "smokin' sex." This music is so evocative of big city glamour that is has me looking at the calendar to see if I can fit in a vacation to Chicago or NYC in the next few months. It has me thinking of Sam Slade working the streets, and James Bond working the room. Yes, you can visualize some beautiful babes swaying around lustfully on the stage under the warm glow of colored lights, but there is a casual elegance to the ambience, nothing particularly naughty. This is music from a more civilized age where fornication is only vaguely implied.
I will file this in my soundtracks collection, even though I do not believe it was originally created to be a soundtrack to any movie. But it seems like it should have been, as it captures the essence of, say, some dangerous character as he wanders the streets, alleyways, and swanky clubs of a big city on a cold night as he attempts to unravel some sinister mystery, one which involves a dead stranger, a suitcase full of loot, and a beautiful babe. Visual clichés like that readily flow through your head when you hear this. The songs here are as cosmopolitan as music can be. This CD is simply a must-have for anyone who loves jazz, burlesque, big-band, or the intensity of a big city at night. This is a substantive CD, loaded with 60 minutes and 27 seconds of fabulous sound without a single weak note to be heard.
Easily worth twice the asking price. I'm confident that this is what Henry Mancini and Ennio Morricone listened to when they had their after-dinner drink in front of the fireplace, and I bet Sinatra and Dino had well-played copies in their collections as well.
