Music Review: Wow, Might Be Brom's Best Ever

When I was an undergrad I saw Dave Bromberg perform solo at my campus's beer-only venue and he was terrific. I have been hooked ever since. I own about ten of Dave's albums, and listen to them a lot. I can say then, with some authority that (IMHO) this is his best album, by far!
The first even dozen songs (originally released as My Own House, 1978) are Dave either solo acoustic, or accompanied by George Kindler and/or Dick Fegy on mandolin, fiddle or banjo. The songs are wonderful, quiet, lovely, and an assortment of traditional old folk and blues. He gives his own particular twist to such classics as Cocaine Blues, Spanish Johnny, and Georgia on My Mind.
The next six songs (released as You Should See the Rest of the Band, 1980) are all live versions, and a bit more raucous with Dave sometimes playing on electric guitar, and accompanied by the rest of the band. Between the two albums you get a taste of Mr. Bromberg as solo artist and as part of a group.
If you know Dave's work then you already will understand that this is a great album, and if you don't this is probably the best place to start as you get him both ways.
