Music Review: Another Sound to Try

*"Time to Get Out," provides a fast, boisterous orchestral opening, followed by a slow smooth James Bond theme.
*"The Palio" is moderately intense, and reaches a bit of a crescendo at the end.
*"Inside Man" is slower, but very smooth and slick with some funky guitars and trumpets. Too bad it's only 38 seconds long.
*"Bond in Haiti" is a short tune with some tribal drums and strings. It's pretty slick.
*"Somebody Wants to Kill You" provides even more tribal tunes with its drums, guitar, and tubular instruments. Takes on the usual orchestral intensity at the end.
*"Green & Camille" is slow, but with some interesting background percussion, strings, and one or two funky instruments.
*"Pursuit at Port Au Prince" has some very intense orchestration, combined with some awesome electric guitars, trumpets, and percussion. Probably one of the awesomest tracks on this CD.
*"No Interest in Dominic Greene," is a slow track with soft gentle strings. It's rather dreary, but atmospheric.
*"Night at the Opera" is another soft track, but with a greater sense of urgency.
*"Restrict Bond's Movements" is yet another soft track with a dreary tone.
*"Talamone" is short, has some uplifting orchestration. It's cool.
*"What's Keeping You Awake" is yet another soft track with a dreary tone.
*"Bolivian Taxi Ride" is really funky. Has some more tribal drums and some different types of guitars, playing out the classic Bond theme.
*"Field Trip" is a short soft rendition of the Bond theme. It's neat.
*"Forgive Yourself" is a soft track with piano. It's nice.
*"DC3" is a short track which is mostly silent, but has some uplifting percussion and orchestrations at the end.
*"Target Terminated" is one of the faster louder tracks with just a little bit of background percussion.
*"Camille's Story" is another soft track with some nice acoustic guitar at the end.
*"Oil Fields" is a downbeat track with some intense stabs of percussion. Very brooding and dramatic.
*"Have You Ever Killed Someone?" is short, but has some cool acoustic guitars and orchestrations.
*"Perla De Las Dunas" is a very long track, with fast parts and slow parts. The faster parts are pretty intense and cool, and the slower parts are nice.
*"The Dead Don't Care About Vengeance" is short, but has some neat strings to it.
*"I Never Left" is a short piano track. It's nice and ends the orchestration part of the album well.
*"Another Way to Die" by Jack White and Alicia Keys. Well, it has some slick piano and strings, combined with the cool guitars. The lyrics and singing are alright. The melody seems kind of weird, especially between verses. The chorus is moderately intense, but is short. I rather like it, but it sounds like most people don't.

As far as Bond soundtracks go, this one is quite good. The orchestrations have a lot of interesting new sounds, utilizing different types of guitars, drums, and other instruments to create a distinctively foreign sound. Some parts are modernized, but accentuate the orchestrations very well. It has a lot of fast, loud, intense orchestrations and a lot of slower smoother sounds. The themes are not bad; the classic James Bond theme is very much present (but the "Another Way to Die" melody doesn't seem to appear as a theme in the score; oh well). As for the theme song, you'll either love it or hate it. You'll probably want to get this CD if you enjoy movie scores (particuarly the Bond scores), but would not reccomend it if you hate scores (I'm sure you can download the theme song on its own somewhere, if interested).

Description of Quantum of Solace

Quantum of Solace continues the high octane adventures of Daniel Craig as James Bond. Directed by Marc Fisher, this 22nd installation in the 007 franchise hits theaters on October 31st, 2008 in Europe and November 14th in the US. This film features music by composer David Arnold and the new single 'Another Way To Die' by Jack White (White Stripes) and Alicia Keys, a first ever duet for a James Bond flick. The Quantum of Solace soundtrack will include the movie score and this new single. David Arnold is a Grammy-winning English film composer, best known for scoring five James Bond films including the score for Casino Royale and the blockbuster Independence Day.
