There's a lot more people out there like this than people realize, they just aren't darlings of the press. He reminds me of Sufjan Stevens without the musical talent. Don't get me wrong, I like quirky artists. Johnathan Richmond, Sufjan, Camper Von Beethoven, VU, and ASustin's other wack job, Roky Erickson. But just because you're insane doesn't mean you're a genius. I can see why Kurt Cobaine liked Daniel. He finally found someone more overrated than himself.
This is the kind of thing people pretend to like to prove they're open minded and hip. Daniel occasionally has some cool stuff. More often it's just embarassing. Virtually never well sung or recorded. Yes, it's different. Different because something this bad would normally never get released. On the other hand, I can see why this would seem like a goldmine for the pretentious crowd. This is like a poor man's Suffjan Stevens or Camper Von Beethoven.
