Music Review: Alive and Kicking!

When I read the first Bruno Ravel interviews after the Revolve release, where he stated that this was the best album of their career I was skeptical. Danger Danger is one of my favourite rock bands, I love their entire discography, but doing something better than Screw it! or better than the debut album, I thought it was almost impossible. Their albums are without a doubt some of the best hair metal ever conceived and recorded in my opinion. Now, this one. It's difficult to say if this is their best album ever, and this thing I think that can testify how great this album is. It is the best possible melodical rock in the american way I can think of. The eleven Revolve tunes are stunning, really, if you love the genre and the old Danger Danger stuff, you will love it. The band is tight and the arrangements very beautiful As usual with Danger Danger, the melodies are simple, but catching with a juvenile touch that other bands can't achieve. It surely depends on Ted Poley which has on of those voice that trascend the genre, he seems to embody the spirit of a young and joyful, hopeful America. He seems to be able to summarize the entire american rock history in his voice, this is my opinion. I feel his voice this strong! I loved Paul laine too, and I believe he gave his best in the phenomenal DD live album Live & Nude. But Ted Poley is the voice of DD. Talking about band members even if I feel Andy Timmons to be the perfect DD guitarist, Rob Marcello is SO AMAZING that makes me doubt about it. I think he has been a fantastic choice for DD in replacing Timmons years ago. Now he perfectly fits the band and his contribution is stellar. The songs are, delicious american hair rock the way WE, kids of the eighties like it, great guitars, splendid riffs, touching melodies, unforgettable power ballads. I don't have a paricular tune to point out. The first eight tunes are amazing, they really make you think this to be the best DD album, ... they are on THAT level, ... Dirty Mind is a marvellous closing number. The two tunes that I rate a little below the par are "Beautiful Regret" and "Never give up", ... but they are nice tunes, ... the problem is that the other 9 are so great examples of rock with balls that, I have to rate them a little less. In the end a stellar release from a band that I'm happy is still Alive & Kicking!

2009 album from the veteran Heavy Metal band, released to coincide with the 20th Anniversary of their original debut album. Danger Danger were formed in 1987 by Bruno Ravel (bass) and Steve West (drums) and rounded out by Ted Poley (vocals) Andy Timmons (guitar) and Kasey Smith (keyboards).
