Music Review: Almost better than a '3', but...
Rating: 3 Stars
I wholeheartedly agree with much of the 5 star reviews to found here, at least when referring to (dare I say celebrant?) Father Scanlon and his readings of traditional station observances. However, while acknowledging this may be suitable for many, my wife & I found the (sorta minor key progression) singing of the responses to be distracting. We would have much preferred the responses to have been in spoken voice, as neither of us can sing worth a darn.
Positives
=========
Reading at each station is a traditional reading
Father Scanlon delivers each reading perfectly
His accent is faint, in no way a distraction from the somber topic
The production values for the CD are TOP NOTCH (not always true, eh?)
Negatives
=========
As stated above, responses and reflections are sung
I would have preferred a more primary chord progression for the singing
The tempo for the responses felt to me as if they were trying to fill the CD
Final analysis - Good buy, especially if you want to ~listen~ rather than ~participate~. For myself, I'll either edit out the sung responses or look for another CD.
