Music Review: worth the time and money... for me

I'm an old-time Dan Fogelberg fan. He was becoming a huge success just as I entered college in 1977, and guitar-in-hand, I strove to learn every Dan Fogelberg song exactly as he played and sang them, down to each hammer and slide of a particular guitar string, and I had a voice that could fortunately hit the same notes that Dan hit.
Somewhere around "Phoenix", I started to realize that Dan was going in a different direction than I was musically, and I stopped buying his records. Fortunately for Dan, others seemed to like songs like "Longer" and "Leader of the Band" a whole lot more than I did.
I recently rediscovered Dan's music after having retired it to a memory box for decades. What a joy it was to sing and play along to some of those great old songs.
Then I stumbled across this CD, and decided to buy it so I'd have something to help me pass the time on a long car ride.
It was an enjoyable listen for someone like me. The CD is more "Dan's favorite Dan songs" than it is interview, in my opinion. The songs are played in full, and introduced by Dan and Fred Migliore in a brief question/answer format. I did not find the interview particularly insightful. Instead, it seemed to me to be almost painfully shallow and without much substance. But perhaps that is the perspective of someone who knows that Dan is now dead. I had to remind myself that this was a radio interview that was done in 1997. I sure wish there was an interview done in 2006 with Dan (or even a book) - I would have to think that the interview would have gone deeper and broader.
Lastly, the price tag is almost shocking for what you really get. But I guess I bought it... and I'm even glad I did, all in all.
