Music Review: Best Before 1984

The artistic punch that went into this re-release is quite impressive. And that is even before delving into the 34 tracks that show the legendary anarcho-punk group at work and play.
A hefty booklet includes an essay each from Penny Rimbaud and Steve Ignorant, photographs, drawings, lyrics and remastering information. The original album artwork folds out into a mini-poster and the CD is housed in its own gatefold sleeve, which has recording information on the four sections of music (original album, Rimbaud and Ignorant in a duo performance, in an unknown studio on August 27, 1977, and at Southern Studios on February 27, 1978). Rimbaud's spoken word composition "Asylum" sounds even more powerful, though the classics "Do They Owe Us a Living?," "Punk is Dead" and "Fight War Not Wars" gleam with renewed energy.
Ignorant will soon be embarking on the North American leg of a tour that salutes the band's material. Though it's not promoting The Crassical Collection, the combination makes for a very Merry Crassmas.

Digitally remastered and expanded edition of this album from the legendary Anarcho-Punks, part of The Crassical Collection reissue series. This album has been repackaged with a 64 pg booklet that features lyrics, liner notes from band members Steve Ignorant and Penny Rimbaud, a CD sized recreation of the original fold-out poster sleeve and bolstered by rare and unreleased tracks and stunning new artwork from Gee Vaucher, who has lovingly created what could only be considered a real artifact. First released in 1978 on Small Wonder Records and later re-released on the band's own Crass Records, The Feeding of the Five Thousand showed Crass as an anti-establishment and highly uncompromising act, and one that would influence countless other bands to follow.Alternative Rock CDs
