Music Review: Extraordinary

Words cannot begin to describe just how genuine and moving a CD this is. Craig was an extraordinarily fine old-time fiddler, banjo player, and guitar player, not to mention a wonderful (perhaps idiosyncratic) singer and a superb songwriter. Craig had infinite respect for tradition, and all of the arrangements are firmly rooted in that tradition. Even his original songs feel like they've been around for centuries.
There's so much music available these days that when I come up with a new CD I'll generally listen to it once or twice, upload it to my iTunes library, and then move on to something else. Craig's "Away Down the Road" is the exception. I find myself listening to it again and again, always learning something new about the music--the tunes as well as the songs. I cannot think of a more heartfelt, genuinely affecting collection of work.
Craig Johnson was the real deal.
