Music Review: Not as great as its "Splendid" follow-up, but a fine acoustic duet album

Twin House and its sequel Splendid both start off with very similar tracks, but after the first song, they go in very different directions. Twin House stays the course with pure acoustic guitar duets, finely selected tunes done masterfully by these impressive virtuosos. Splendid adds the occasional electric guitar, etc., and takes on a totally different personality. But, what can be said about Twin House? I'll keep it short and simple. Larry Coryell is simply a guitar wizard. I've seen him in concert, and he is a pure joy to watch. He makes it look as if it's as easy to be a genius as it is to fall out of bed. Philip Catherine has earned the right to call himself a peer of Larry's. Not to put Phillip on a lower plane, he got where he is without being in Coryell's shadow, but he is a brilliant guitarist in his own right, and he wrote most of the tunes on this album...including the title song, whose title is an obvious bust on the fact that Larry rose to fame as the head of fusion super group The Eleventh House. This is a very good collection of acoustic guitar duets done by jazz guitar giants. What else needs to be explained? Two acoustic guitars played brilliantly by wizards of the instrument, and nothing else. Get the point?
