Music Reviews of Company (2006 Broadway Revival Cast)Music Review: Little makes it big. Rating: 5 Stars
This version of Company originated in Cincinnati, Ohio at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park under the direction of John Doyle and is unique in its having no orchestra but relies on the actor-musicians to plumb the depths of their characters by not only acting and dancing, but also by playing their instruments. It is highly successful and is Tony material.
Music Review: DVD yes CD - likely no... Rating: 2 Stars
Saw the Show in NYC in 2006. Also on PBS (TV). It is a visual experience, but if you hear without seeing, you lose the essence of the show. I like the actors with instruments; moving in and out of the scenes. Remember that this is a series of vignettes and cannot be portrayed and appreciated without seeing the set. And the set is Marvelous.
Music Review: Company Rating: 5 Stars
Of the 3 recordings of Comapny that I have, the latest Broadway revival is far and away the best. The extra dialogue brings back the focus much more than either the OBC or The Donmar recording of the mid 90's. It has hardly been off my cd player since getting back from Broadway, and has pride of place on the iPod. A must for any Sondheim fan.
Music Review: Loved it Rating: 4 Stars
Loved it as it reminded me so much of going to see the show itself. Had a lot of dialog, and bridges and made it ever so easy to understand whether you'd seen it or not. Everyone was in wonderful voice. Raul Esparza is the most moving Bobby I've every seen, and I go back to the original.
Music Review: Maybe I am partial to Esparza Rating: 4 Stars
I love the revival of this show. I think its a beautiful version of Company with lovely vocals. I might be partial to Esparza but I truly think that this was a great revival. I think its a wonderful rendition of the Sondheim classic.
