Music Reviews of In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3Music Review: I can't believe you people Rating: 1 Stars
Since when was it good music for a guy who sounds like a girl to blurt out expletives overtop of lame chord progressions? Never! This album seems to be the band's most respected work, though if you ask me they deserve no respect. The brains of all these five star reviewers have apparently been numbed musically, because surely no-one in an upright American society would be fooled into thinking this so-called "Music" is actually good for the ears. Wrong-o! This album, right here, is the worst CD I have ever heard. I promise you that is no spur of the moment exaggeration, it's just so awful. This band needs to lose its popularity NOW. They're just like New Found Glory and Rush; ruined by the singer. But in this case, the music wouldn't have been any good with another singer even; everything that could go wrong has.
If you want GOOD music, ya ain't gonna find it here! I highly recommend Muse, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, and Oasis, but that's just me. This CD is so horrible; I could go on forever about its inferiority in the music world but the music speaks for itself. Sheesh does it suck. 'Tis all 4 now.
Music Review: Prog-Rock all over again...very nice Rating: 4 Stars
Prog-rock was the first kind of music I was exposed to, at the early age of 3. Bands like Jethro Tull, ELP, King Crimson, Yes, Gentle Giant, etc. I later broadened my horizons, and while prog is no longer my top preference, I still enjoy it very much and Coheed and Cambria have created an album that cashes in as a pretty damn good mix of prog, metal, pop, punk, and acoustic, even with some classical elements as well. When I first heard this band, the song was "Time Consumer" and it was catchy, but it didn't grab me. Then Keeping Secrets came out, and still I wasn't hooked despite some very good songs. But then I heard "Welcome Home", and I was very impressed with the epicness of the song - it grabbed me right away. So now I have purchased the entire album, and I have to say what I've heard beats any of their previous work that I've heard. Not to say that the past two albums weren't any good, but this one definitely tops both of them. Thank you Coheed and Cambria, for taking listeners into a prog concept album that really takes you on a trip. A must buy for this holiday season.
Music Review: Moving and Nearly EPIC Rating: 5 Stars
"Coheed & Cambria" cannot easily be classified. They are a mixture of many genres- rock, metal, alternative, classical (yes), and punk. There is screaming in the background, poppy vocals and peppy tones- all mixed well together to carry out over epic songs.
It is very easy to get "lost" in this music. To listen and get transported to wherever it is that they are singing and playing from. In one song: "In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3", it is easy to picture the war that they are singing about: "Man your battle stations! we'll have you dead pretty soon... Man your battle stations! we'll have you home pretty soon..."
It is very easy to just... flow with the music. To get wrapped up in it, letting it course through your veins and basically hypnotize you. "In Keeping Secrets" is definitely my favorite song on this album... but every single song is fan-f&ing-tastic! It is an amazing album. Unlike any other!
If you like punk music, but also like rock and metal, this album and this band is the perfect fit for you!
Music Review: What a suprise Rating: 3 Stars
I didn't do it this time around, but I usually go on the internet and check out the lyrics of a CD I want before I get it, I personally don't want disgusting lyrics or eccessive swearing in my music. Not that Coheed and Cambria is that bad to the point where I can't enjoy their music, but some parts I did find rather distubing, thus either ruining or almost ruining some songs. I was definitely not expecting something like that from a pop/punk band, hence the title of my review. Stuff like the reference to cutting the throats of babies, children mourning in the graveyard, cutting off somebody's limbs and burning what remains, etc kinda turned me off a bit and made me unable to listen to some of the songs. I do realize that it's just a story, but call me hypersensitive to that kind of stuff. Look up the lyrics to the CD on the internet somewhere like I should've if it concerns you. From what I gathered this is like a sci-fi almost war-type story told to (at times) New Found Glory-esque pop/punk, with some song structures that kind of remind me of Eric Johnson.
Music Review: Amazing. Perfection. Rating: 5 Stars
Coheed and Cambria is an amazingly unique and inspiring band. The only reason that they are not played on the radio constantly is because most of their songs are not repetative, and their music is not poppy and crowd pleasing to the standard attention deficit disorder audience. You may have to listen to each song a couple times to truly realize how incredible they all are. To those who make fun of the songs for their strange titles or lyrics, maybe do a little research. The concept albums have a great story to them. All three of their albums are fantastic, with this one being my favorite. Also, the Stardust DVD is one of the best live performances I have ever seen, period. You may not understand how talented Claudio is until you see him play an accoustic version of the song "The Light and The Glass" at the end of the DVD. I am not going to try and classify their music because there is no need. If you like good music, you will like Coheed and Cambria. Buy this album before the rest of the world realizes how good they are.
