Music Reviews of The Way / SolitaireMusic Review: SIMPLY THE BEST!!! Rating: 5 Stars
As an old Tina Turner song once said, Clay Aiken is "simply the best....better than all the rest." If you need proof that my statement is true, just go buy this CD and listen to the song "Solitaire." After you've heard that song, and especially the last minute or so of the song that begins with the breathtaking 15 second "glory note," I dare you to disagree with me! And if, for some unimaginable reason, hearing "Solitaire" isn't enough to convince you, go buy his full-length CD, "Measure of a Man." I'm telling you the truth - you won't find a bad song on that entire CD! They are all GREAT! Clay has this amazing ability to give me chills and bring a smile to my face every time I hear his incredible voice. And not only does he have an awesome voice, but he is such a caring and sweet person. Clay is the kind of artist we need to spend our money to support. So get out there and start buying his stuff!! I LOVE YOU CLAY!!!!
Music Review: Brilliant as a Solitaire Rating: 5 Stars
If you caught Clay's performance of Solitaire on the March 17th American Idol, and think therefore that you know what he can do with this song, you need to listen to the single! (The Idol performance was not his best, and the normally unflappable Aiken even admitted to Seacrest afterwards that, uncharacteristically, he'd gotten a bit nervous waiting off-stage in the old Idol red room -- it showed, as he got off to a tentative start.) The TV version had also apparently been cut and pasted, to shorten it for the show. The actual song lasts nearly five and 1/2 minutes. If that seems like a long time to sit through one song, trust me -- you'll find yourself listening to it over and over and over again. Aiken's performance of Solitaire has got to be one the all-time best performances in Popular music EVER. This is a GREAT Performance, in the full historical sense of the word. Listen to history being made, and enjoy Clay's inspired and brilliant interpretation.
Music Review: "The Way" to find "Solitaire" Rating: 5 Stars
"The Way" is going to be the 2004 Prom date and most requested song for wedding receptions. The message conveyed so perfectly by Aikens emotional and soaring vocal delivery, is absolutely heart wrenching. The words are memorable and they convey complete longing and happiness for the love that he has found. The "flip side" presents the incomperable "Solitaire" which Clay sang on American Idol sending the entire audience into chills and tears of joy. He presents this song as a gift to his fans who he credits for his super stardom today. A gift it truly is! It's difficult to describe the perfection of his voice as he reaches down to the lower register or soars high in glory notes. He is pure gold. He tells a story of lost love as he reaches out and grabs you by the heartstrings with such incredible emotion! You will want a couple of copies of this CD. One for home and one for the car or office. Absolutely A+! Aiken plus!
Music Review: Five Stars isn't enough! Rating: 5 Stars
First the A side: I loved 'The Way' when I first heard it on the album, loved it more when Clay performed it on t.v., and am really looking forward to hearing it on the current tour. Although the video isn't being shown in Canada yet, I have seen it once and am eagerly awaiting more. Clay dedicates this song to his fans - it is a beautiful, beautiful expression of love sung by one of the most compelling voices heard today. Now the B side: 'Solitaire' was an incredible performance on AI2 and I honestly didn't think that there could be a better version. Thought that maybe he should not record it, but leave that AI performance to stand alone. Was I ever wrong! This is the song that should earn Clay a Grammy nomination!!! Words cannot describe how incredible his rendition is or how it will make you feel. I do wish Clay was being played on the radio more, but next payday will buy a CD player for my car, so that problem will be solved.
Music Review: A Masterpiece! Rating: 5 Stars
I have to admit I own Clay Aikens CD Measure of a Man and really enjoy it but was not prepared for his version of Solitaire. I have never liked the song so I expected not to like this version either. Was I ever wrong, the song just blew me away I still have chills from listening to it over and over since I picked it up this morning. This young mans voice is truly amazing, what doesn't show in his CD you can definatley hear in Solitaire. Clay Aiken proves he is not just a product of a reality TV show but a true artist, I seldom have this kind of a reaction from a song but this song is truly a masterpiece. Mr. Aikens wide range and powerful vocals really come through, I am very impressed. If this song doesn't receive a Grammy nod then I have will have serious doubts about the music industry and what they concider art.Truly an amazing version of Solitarie. Neil Sedaka should be very proud that his song has found the person that was meant to sing it.
