Description of The Singles (CD version)
2006 box set, a real 'treasure chest' for Clash fans (and Punk and Rock fans in general)! During their lifespan (1977-85), The Clash released 19 of the greatest singles of their generation and all of them are here. Each CD single is packaged in it's own individual sleeve (plus original artwork from various countries), with each single including every B-side that appeared on various seven-inch and twelve-inch formats released around the world. Yes, every single from 'White Riot' to 'This Is England' complete with all the rare B-sides including 'London's Burning' (Live), 'Justice Tonight', 'First Night Back In London' 'Rockers Galore...UK Tour', 'Do It Now', four mixes of 'Magnificent Seven' and so much more. Even after all these years, The Clash are still the only band that matters. The CDs will be packaged in 7" style sleeves and vinyl reproduction CDs. The package will also include a 44-Page booklet with extensive sleevenotes, unseen and rare photos and memorabilia. The sleevenotes include contributions from Mike D, The Edge, Bobby Gillespie, Irvine Welsh, Steve Jones and Damon Albarn among others. Sony. 2006.This box set contains 19 separate CD reproductions of the Clash's original U.K. singles, in paper sleeves with the original single artwork. This might seem a tad ridiculous at first--after all, CDs can hold 80 minutes of music, right? But every possible B-side has been included--songs from 12- and 7-inches, many of those rare tracks only released in other countries--and some of the CDs have as many as eight tracks. One of the earliest (and strongest) criticisms of CD reissues has been the way in which they tend to divorce the listener from the context of original releases; obviously that's not the case here. All of the group's major single statements are here, from their earliest buzz saw manifestos to the latter experiments in dub.
