Music Review: Scottish Magic

The pure pop tracks that stand out on CD1 are 'Solid State Brain' and 'Give me what I cry for', both of which made a respectably dent in the UK singles charts. Chris was highly influenced by Beach Boy Brian Wilson and the multi-tracked harmonies are a tribute to the man himself with 'Dear Brian' evoking a mental picture of California beaches in the sixties.

Many of the tracks, such as 'Show us the sun' on CD2 conjure up an image of the days when popular music had a simpler message and was there simply to be enjoyed for what it was. There are Beach Boys influences throughout the CD with accapella track 'Dansette' really showing of Chris's vocal perfection and attention to detail.

Then we have the more poignant tracks such as Glasgow Boy with Chris graphically describing the darker side of the violent Glasgow streets in the sixties and seventies.

For the fans verging on the fanatical - Chris has even included some radio ID jingles he made for London station Capital Radio in 1976.

This CD is an absolute must for all Chris Rainbow fans. With songs to make you happy, songs to make you sad and songs to totally chill you out. Buy it now at any cost !

P.S. If you think you have never heard his vocal talent before - well maybe you have because he features on lead vocals on several Alan Parsons Project tracks - Turn of a Friendly Card to name but one.
