Music Review: Alt-country before Alt-country

About 25 years ago I purchased a couple of Charlie Pickett recordings which were some of the favorites in my collection. I was happy to see that this collection existed since my old LPs and I have since parted company. The CD collects songs from all of Pickett's releases and all of the best songs are here. There are two previously unrealeased tracks, a new one, Penny Instead, and an outtake frome the Route 33 session Get Off On Your Porch.
These songs are more bluesy and less pop than early Old 97's but they have the same spirit, alt-country twang and they provide they same kind of fun. The booklet updates Charlie Pickett's life since these records and it's nice to hear he is that he is doing alright albiet in a more traditional kind of life. All the best to him and thanks for the great tunes.
