Music Review: Why so much negativity, people?

Let's get this out of the way right now: This album, Celtic Thunder's first (and long overdue) Christmas outing is, in my opinion, great. A far cry from "boring" or "uninspired" if you ask me. Some here have trashed it because of the lack of "traditional" Christmas songs, or what have you. In response to that, I say "so what?" If traditional Christmas music is what you seek, there are plenty of Christmas albums out there which feature it. Bing Crosby, Harry Connick, Jr., Nat King Cole, Elvis Presley, the list goes on.
Furthermore, it isn't supposed to be a "Celtic" music album. The album is called Christmas for a reason. I have a feeling that some folks won't be satisfied until CT releases an album chock full of nothing but Celtic music. (Which, for those who may not know, is coming in the spring of next year. It is titled Heritage.) But for those of us who love the fact that the guys aren't a one-trick pony, if you will, this album (not to mention the previously released It's Entertainment) is fantastic. For those who want all Celtic music all the time, Celtic Woman is always out there.
On to the actual songs: I understand the frustration of those who don't care for "Christmas 1915" being included here, since it was already on the Act Two CD. It is, however, a Christmas song and personally I don't think it fit too well with the other non-Christmas material on Act Two. But it is what it is, I suppose. The rest of the material on here is top-notch Celtic Thunder and shows how far the guys have come along vocally. Now 18-year old Damian's voice has truly gotten deeper over the years, and his cover of "Winter Wonderland" really shines. Charley Bird, known among CT fans for her guest vocal work in both the It's Entertainment and Storm shows, provides a nice complement to the throaty singing of Ryan on "Baby, It's Cold Outside." And the guys as a collective unit perform beautifully on "Silent Night" and the Christmas medley featuring "The Most Wonderful Time of The Year" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas." Their harmony is still second to none. But for me, the "best song on the album" award goes to one Paul Byrom, for his stellar performance of the Phil Coulter original "Christmas Morning, Donegal." Some of you may not have this track on your copy of the album, and that's because it was made available only to those who ordered it via QVC. If you don't have it, check it out on YouTube or find somewhere you can download it from! It has all the hallmarks of a Coulter-penned tune, and Paul's voice is as emotional and powerful as ever.
My only complaint about the album? My copy is too short! Counting the QVC-exclusive track and "Christmas 1915," it only has twelve songs! :-/ Looks like I got shorted. But I can always order another. And for those fans who are interested, there will be a DVD of the Christmas show recorded live in Poughkeepsie, NY last month available on November 22! :)
