Music Review: Not since those first two Elliot Smith records...
Rating: 5 Stars
have I been so pleasantly surprised by a new discovery. Listen to the above links and hunt down mp3s at the monitor records website or wherever, because describing music is stupid, so I won't. [Belle and Sebastian? Lee Hazlewood? those couple of good East River Pipe songs? ok, we're done with that part of the review.] But this is a very satisfying record. You will see that for yourself if you listen to the bits...Don't buy from monitor records (his label) though--it was weeks and weeks before I could even elicit a response from them as to where my stuff was. Another thing, many web reviews seem to find this wanting after his EP. I myself like this album much better. Not that this sounds anything like Pavement, but if you prefer your artists Wowee Zowee to Terror Twilight, you will prefer this. If the reverse is true, you will probably prefer the EP. This is not to imply that they are as different-sounding as those albums are, but that gives you an idea.
