Music reviews of Some HeartsMusic Review: The Material was good, but Carrie blew it! Rating: 1 Stars
My Favorites
Wasted was a great way to open this CD. The sound is Carrie Underwood all the way. Lots of drum, piano and guitar accompany her sound and this sound reminds us not to waste time and find that time has passed us by.
Don't Forget To Remember Me starts out slowly with the sound of a mandolin and soft guitar and the message that follows makes this one of my favorites on this CD.
*18 years have come and gone
For momma they flew by
But for me they just drug on
We were loading up that Chevy
Both tryin' not to cry
Momma kept on talking
Putting off good-bye
Then she took my hand and said
Baby don't forget
Before you hit the highway
You better stop for gas
There's a 50 in ashtray
In case you run short on cash
Here's a map and here's a bible
If you ever loose your way
Just one more thing before you leave
Don't forget to remember me
I think this song reminds me of each one of my children leaving home when they grew up. It is a sad / proud time Ms. Underwood sings of the emotions of the time.
Some Hearts written by the fabulous Dianne Warren and is a faster song with a steady beat. In this song Ms. Underwood really shows what her voice can do. The length of time she holds some notes amazes me.
Jesus, Take the Wheel while this song is about someone driving and in a situation that they can't handle, it is also an allegory for the way one handles their life.
*Jesus take the wheel
Take it from my hands
Cause I can't do this all on my own
I'm letting go
So give me one more chance
To save me from this road I'm on
Jesus take the wheel
This is the song that Carrie sang at the CMA's and the more I hear it, the more I like it. It speaks to my heart and reminds me of who is in charge of my life.
The song Starts With Goodbye almost sounds as if this is the road that Carrie had to follow to get to where she is today.
*I guess it's gonna have to hurt,
I guess I'm gonna have to cry,
And let go of some things I've loved,
To get to the other side,
I guess it's gonna bring me down,
Like falling when you try to fly,
It's sad, but sometimes moving on with the rest of your life,
Starts with goodbye.
Lots of guitar and a medium pace makes this one of my favorites on this CD as well. It just has a nice sound that I want to sing along with.
I Ain't In Checotah Anymore is another medium paced song that really features her country sound. The banjo and fiddle in the background gives it more of that country feel. I also like that she co-wrote this song of her hometown.
Not Quite My Favorites
We`re Young and Beautiful this isn't one of my favorites on this CD. The tempo of the song doesn't grab me, nor do the lyrics.
*While we're young and beautiful,
Kiss me like you mean it,
Treat me like I'm special,
Cover me with sweetness,
Cause a time will come,
When I'm not so young, and beautiful,
While we're young and beautiful,
Living free and easy,
Here without a worry,
Dancing in our bare feet,
Cause when the summer's done,
When I won't be so young, and beautiful.
Just something about it that doesn't sound right to me....perhaps because I'm not young and beautiful, but would like to think that perhaps I'm more experienced and attractive. This song makes it sound as if once your not young and beautiful life won't be as valuable. Silly feeling about it, I guess, but it is my feeling.
I have mixed feelings about Before He Cheats. I like the sound of it and the tip, tip, tap sound of the song, but I don't feel the lyrics are great for Carrie. It is about keying a car, breaking headlights, carving a name on leather seats because a man cheats. While I don't agree with cheating naturally, I don't like this response to it either. I don't think this would be a great message to send to young girls about handling your problems. I'm sure I'm over thinking it, but while I like her voice and the music, I don't like the message.
My Feelings
I bought this CD yesterday, did a quick listen to it and then waited for an opportunity to really sit and listen. This morning my hubby is working at our Church and I'm home alone. What a perfect time to put the CD on, crank up the volume and soak in the beauty of Ms. Underwood's voice.
Right from the first time I heard Carrie Underwood sing on American Idol, I loved the sound of this young girl's voice. She has a clean down home sound, look and attitude that I hope she never loses. She can sing the high notes, use gravelly sound that grabs me and still have a pure country sound to her voice. While this CD is listed as Pop / Rock, I feel it has enough of a country sound to it to make Ms. Underwood become a great new country star.
I am always very disappointed when a CD doesn't include the lyrics with it. I want to know what the words are in a song, and while I can look them up on the internet, it is rather like having to read several reviews to get a feel for a product, I don't want to have to work that hard. I want to open the jewel case put the CD on and check out the words while I try to sing along. (Lucky that you can't hear me) While her voice is clear and she is easily understood on every song, I would like to be able to read along as she sings.
I'm sure that I'll be following the career of Carrie Underwood and will be purchasing future CD's as well. She is off to a great start with this album. It is one I would recommend to pop, rock and country music lovers.
Overall, its just not that good of a CD

Description of Some HeartsAll products are BRAND NEW and factory sealed. Fast shipping and 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed. Would American Idol winner Carrie Underwood have landed a major-label recording contract without winning the hugely popular television contest? Probably. The big-voiced Oklahoman has the pipes, the look, the pedigree, and, most important, the emotional resonance to sustain a professional career. As an investment in her future, her label eschewed the easy path in putting out an album to take advantage of her publicity, going for a name producer, Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Lonestar), to handle half the tracks. It also solicited material from the same top songwriters (Diane Warren, Brett James, Troy Verges, Rivers Rutherford) who stock albums by Hill, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, and Wynonna. "Jesus, Take the Wheel," the hit first single, shows off the best of Underwood's power vocals, while the sexy rocker "We're Young and Beautiful" pulls her out of her ballad-heavy comfort zone, and her autobiographical "I Ain't in Checotah Anymore" bolsters her authenticity. If the young performer oversings on occasion (the overwrought bonus track, "Inside Your Heaven"), and settles for too many generic themes, she still surprises in her ability to go head-to-head with country?s reigning females. Will Underwood really survive to be a contender for the Martina throne? Let's just say that American Idol judges and voters picked the right contestant. If the posturing Bo Bice had won, rock stars would hardly be quaking in their boots. --Alanna Nash More American Idol Winners Breakaway, Kelly Clarkson | I Need an Angel, Ruben Studdard | Free Yourself, Fantasia Barrino |
