Music Reviews of Carnival Ride

Music Review: I love the music of Carrie Underwood
Rating: 5 Stars

I love this new CD from Carrie Underwood. This is an excellent sophomore effort from music's biggest star. Every track is a winner on this disc. I love all the instruments featured on these tracks especially the violin, the banjo and the electric guitar. Carrie changes the tempo of the tracks on this album nicely. She sounds so feisty and strong on the tracks "Flat On The Floor" and "Last Name". "Get Out Of This Town" is a standout track about getting out of a town and having fun on the open road. "All American Girl" is a good song about how having a child can change our lives. "The More Boys I Meet" is a funny song about having bad luck with dating guys. "Wheel Of The World" is a pretty song about how quickly life can change. "I Told You So" is another great track. I love the tenderness in Carrie's voice on this song. "So Small" is a sweet love song. "I Know You Won't" is a beautiful song about being disappointed over and over by a loved one. "Crazy Dreams" is a song about not giving up on our dreams. This is a very uplifting song. I love this CD.

Music Review: HURRAY !!! Roo Roo Roo Roo 5 Stars

Yes!...It's True!...I Withold A Copy Of Carrie Underwood's Sophomore Record "Carnival Ride"! I Had No Intentions Of Purchasing Or Even If "Leave A Review". I Have To Say That "Carnival Ride" (In My Opinion) Is More Enjoyable & Fun Than "Some Hearts", Carrie's Voice Has Improved Since Her Debut And It Shows. I'm An Upbeat Individual For The Most Part And My Absolute Favorites Over And Over Would Be The "Shawn Colvin"-Esque "Twisted" Along With The "Mary Chapin Carpenter"-Esque Of "The More Boys I Meet" Alongside Two Of Her INCREDIBLE Ballads That Caught My Attention Right From The Start, The Single "So Small" And The Title Which Concludes The Show "Wheel Of The World". I Played The CD All The Way Through And I Know What I Like, The Songs That I Mentioned Here Have Been On Repeat Atleast 10 Times. While I've Only Posessed "Carnival Ride" For Only Less Than A Day, I'm "Sure" The Record Will Evolve More Into My Likeing As Time Unwinds. Once Again, I Am Having So Much Fun With This Batch Of Songs. I Can't Wait To Learn All The Words To Each Track So I Can Sing-A-Long!

Music Review: Will please existing fans
Rating: 4 Stars

OK first up I'll confess to being a big Carrie fan and looking forward to (what I'd always thought would be) the tricky follow up to the runaway success of Some Hearts.
Overall she pulls it off - but only just. There are some real standout tracks - Flat on the Floor, All American Girl, So Small, Just A Dream could and probably will deservedly be monster hits and that's just the first 4 tracks. The rest is less straightforward, there are 3 more true class tunes which is also pretty good news for most CDs today - Wheel of the World, You Wont Find This and I Told You. The last the smartest inclusion for so many reasons (written by Randy Travis w/ backing vocals by Vince Gill - nuff said).
Carrie's vocals are polished throughout and maybe even continuing to improve, but there are few tunes that aren't quite up to the top shelf the reigning CMA female vocalist should command.
Minor quibbles aside (including the lack of I'll Stand By You) I'd still buy anything she does but she may not win as many new fans with this outing as she did with Some Hearts.

Music Review: Carrie takes us on one incredible "Carnival Ride"
Rating: 5 Stars

With her hit album "Some Hearts" already under her belt, what is the reigning Queen of country to do now? Well she can take us on one incredible "Carnival Ride" for example. This down right country album shows that Carrie is an exceptional singer/songwriter. Every track on this CD is absolute perfection!!! What more could you ask for? Well you get a flat out hard rocking sound with "Flat on the Floor" , a smash hit with "So Small", and an incredible cover of the Randy Travis song "I Told You So".

Carrie has definitely shed her American Idol image. Soon, if not by now, we should be seeing Carries name along side such country greats as Reba, Martina, Shania, Faith and Dolly. Everyone needs to go out and get this CD it is definitely worth a listen, I can promise that it will be the best "Carnival Ride" you have ever been on. (5 Stars)

Also other must get songs include "Oh Love" a duet with Brad Paisley on his 5th Gear CD, and "I'll Stand By You". Both are excellent and further cement Carrie as a country great!

Music Review: Spotty, but the voice overcomes the shortcomings
Rating: 4 Stars

Carrie has such a God-given voice that she can often transcend material. There are a few "Before He Cheats" type songs on here, but sometimes they sound like she's trying too hard to catch magic twice. While there are no real dead songs in here (filler), there are some that don't really contribute much. For example, Track 10 (sorry, I forget it's name - "I Told You So"?) is a song that sounds much more like a song for a guy and a little out of place.

BUT, on the plus side, "So Small" is this album's "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and is beautifully sung and in sentiment.

My true favorite though is "I Know You Won't". She takes FULL power of her voice in the chorus and yet adds a beautiful touch on the soft parts when needed. This is reminiscent of her version of Heart's "Alone" on Idol for the sheer power AND passion. Should she decide to release this song, she should time it for the top 12 of Idol and sing it there. It would likely be her biggest song yet and is the best chance for cross-over success. Just a gem of a song.
