Music Review: "See The Light" and you'll "Sway" right along to the beat

As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.
Mick Taylor should never need an introduction. To many his calling card was left September 1, 1967 when the John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers LP entitled "Crusade" was released to the public. Mick had the honor of carrying the torch held by former Bluesbreakers axe men Eric Clapton and Peter Green. For those that weren't yet on the bandwagon the 5 year stint with the Rolling Stones (1969-1974) enlisted him a legion of followers that wouldn't ever disperse. It is highly unusual when a main cog in a bands wheel leaves (Brian Jones) they will find a decent replacement, never mind one of exceptional stature. The Stones picked the best person for the job and his ability to solo, enhance a song with a guitar effect, and make a tasty fill-in made any moment a great one.
Carla Olson may not be a household word but rest assured if Mick Taylor is on stage with her there is something special about Carla's ability.
Carla's guitar and vocals take as many turns as a Chameleon. One moment she could sound like Bob Dylan and in a split second you think Tom Petty, a moment later the sounds are reminiscent of traditional blues and when you think you have her figured out there is always a dose of the country side of the Byrds.
On the 4th of March 1990 Hollywood, California's famed Roxy played host to the combination of Mick and Carla. Two things were evident as the night turned to the next day, the audience was as exhausted as the performers, and nobody left cheated.
For those that wanted a dose of the Stones, Taylor delivered a one two punch with "Sway" and "Silver Train." The version of "Sway" has become legendary for the great arrangement as well as the heart and soul that are obvious from the first note. Carla is no stranger to a pretty tune. "See The Light" shows her side of the world and it looks good from here.
The only danger of this recording will be each listening makes you miss Mick Taylor in the Stones that much more.
