Music Review: Cusco's Apurimac Classic 1988

This is the CD that Art Bell made famous back in 1995. Some of his shows from that time period used this CD exclusively for bumper musice. In fact the "Inca Dance" track is still played at the end of each Coast to Coast show to this day. It's easy to understand how Art Bell was enchanted by this music. It is rhythmnic, hypnotisingly melodic in places and has strong musical structures throughout. The only critique I would give it is this: too much (synthetic) flute. Cusco beats the flute to death in this CD. But the aforementioned musical strengths more than make up for this over usage. Few offerings of this genre have anything close to a melody. Many of this genre are danceable, but few contain the intricate rhythmns found in these lush tracks. These guys are great musicians with a wonderful sense of musical composition. Buy this CD it's a classic.
